Ben Johnson, Ernie Borgnine are two of my favourite actors but there was something about Warren Oates that made you believe he really was a tough likeable shootist. He died way too young. Ernie Borgnine sheds a tear when talking about Warren Oates, Lee Marvin. They were close friends.BTW, great song! Thanks for vid. Cheers
@MagicMarmalade It's called "Son of Sam" by Elliott Smith. The album version is a full on rock version and opens his album Figure 8. This is the acoustic demo version. Dig around a bit on the internet and you should be able to find it.
He nade an interesting story about honor....and commiment, amongst men,,,,,,,,,,,,stupid Mecians should have hadled him over....arrogance get you kills in the and,
Shit, what a movie... in November 12th, that means yesterday, 40th anniversary, and I saw it again, and like always... this is my favourite movie, a classic, a great story, great characters, and great performances, incredible...
Wow. I totally didn't know any of that. I was going to look for a cool Peckinpah clipshow, and stumbled upon this. I'm also a huge Elliott fan, and I thought this was pretty damn cool.
@MuellerHorst -m Great comment! You, like me, must love those slow-motion action shots, and, the 1897 Winchester 12-guage shotguns!?!? Me, too! Love Peckinpah! :)
fantastic soundtrack to one of my favourite movie scenes (from one of my favourite films), wicked and beguiling, if I was one tenth as brave as those guys I would be die happy, thanks
@ submitter: seriously? what about "couple killer each and everytime?" that's exactly what the son of sam killer was, and elliott was obviously making a play on the idea of "killing a couple". i mean i can't decipher the rest of the song at all but that much i made out.

I think the music is just fine.I really like the harp cutting in at about 1:42. The lyrics, not so much. Here you have four grown up men, armed to the teeth, walking toward certain death and a kid voice singing lyrics that nobody understands. Oh, and god bless Warren Oates.
I think also the name for Kill Bill. That's my wild assumption in Pat Garrett and Billy the kid, Billy kills Bell and afterward the other guy says something like Billy Why'd you Kill Bell - but it sounds like "Kill Bill". the line stands out so much in your mind that I could see Tarantino remembering this and I'm quite sure he's a fan of Peckinpah - I'm mean - who isn't!?
The scene shown here was a brilliant improvisation created by Sam Peckinpah the day it was shot. This pussified song does nothing except show the musical shallowness of who ever posted this. Jerry Fielding did a masterful job, thank you very much. But this is the human race and not everyone gets it.
it's a great song, esp. this version. and while the reference to wild bunch may not fit the bill, why exactly is it an insult to peckinpah? both are forms of art and neither invalidates the other.
"I'm not sure exactly what it's about because it's just sort of like telling someone a dream you had last night. There are some destructive figures in it, 'Son of Sam', Shiva... but Shiva's also associated with creativity... I'm not sure... it's just an impressionistic song about destruction and creativity, I guess; if it's about anything." -Elliott Smith on Son of Sam
"That lyric is a particularly bizarre one to me, I didn't know if that phrase, I'm on tour with someone named Sam for a long time, there's Uncle Sam, but I don't know, I couldn't figure out anything specifically about that song so except it seemed to be about creativity and destruction, but you know, people don't listen to lyrics in rock songs." -Elliott Smith on Son of Sam

The slight delay on his voice is incredible. In fact, the production on his voice is just amazing.

Top film! absolute classic! peckinpah is in a class of his own for his originality! But bad choice of music. WHY??

You can see where tarantino got his idea for the scene in reservoir dogs with them strutting down the street from here?

true or false
does not matter
either seperate or togetherthis song and this movie are unforgetable
maybe the story should be true
maybe we can rewrite the story
and maybe we could quote maxwell scott in the Man who shot Liberty Valence
"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."

Agreed. I dont know if thats all true, but if it is, right on, and if it isn't...right on anyway, it was fun to watch.

This is very clever. Interesting, although I wonder how you made this connection? It certainly isn't an obvious one.
