Wanted to see CATS since I first saw the commercial for it on my Barney movie when I was, oh, less that five, maybe? Now, over ten years later, the dream was finally realized. I was already a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera ♥) and CATS just made me love his work even more. The wait was worth it!

i love the overture and entr'acte and finale of any musical. you hear lots of themes of the musical and it's just the orchestra playing. i've been in pits and they're my favorite songs to play.

I saw this last year in Melbourne, I've grown up watching this musical, all time favorite and I remember in prep (Elementary School) I wanted to see this when it came out a yr before, my mum promised me that the next time it came out we'd go, 10 years later, she kept her promise and took me, one of the most fantastic, unforgettable experiences of my life, as soon as this music started shivers ran down my spine and 10 years of waiting, so worth it (:

If there's one thing that the video does better than any of the productions, it's this. The music is so much more beautiful with the large orchestra. The overture, Macavity, Memory.....so much better with this orchestra. I love the fullness of it. It makes you appreciate the music even more.

Question... since there isn't much of a story to it, would this count as a musical or an opera?

It does tell a story, and features only music, which makes me want to say Opera.

However, many of the songs are relatively unrelated, and the story is only running in the background, usually bowing out to separate, individual songs, which makes me want to say Musical.

Really, this song's best of them all. can you imagine how hard the orchestra worked at this? It seems that it's all taken for granted and all everyone pays attention to is the singers or what's in front of them. this is a quote from my friend who has serious vision problems. There's about 30 people in the pit, ranging from Freshmen to Seniors in highschool. Its really difficult music, the time signatures are ridiculous and don't get me started on the key signatures. =0. It's a rather large group.

The orchestra does do a lot of work in this song. I think another song potentially tops it in orchestra work, though, and that would be "The Jellicle Ball", where all the cats do nothing but dance.

I agree too. Why did they even close CATS??? This musical has one of the largest fanbases of any musical, and every year, more and more people discover it. I can't imagine it started not selling that many tickets. Andrew probably already has enough money to retire by now - I guess he doesn't want even more.
