In the water, down there, is a different world. Not our Kingdom, but their's, and they have more power. Once you're in that water and swimming about we become vulnerable and possible easy victims. And whales, or any big fish really, scare me because they're bigger and faster! :S

beautiful. i record the songs of the california thrasher, the most eloquent of any bird i've ever heard. if i play the same or similar notes on guitar it will sometimes respond, at least it seems that way. save the whales, save the thrashers. not an easy task

the humpback whale has a song that is unique for every family. is divided like our songs, into refrain and 15 strophes. Every year the family delete the older strophe adding a new one.....always mantaining the refrain.

merperson: yes, i was able to listen this by myself while i was diving, so i recorded it making a video, with the simple microphone of my camera (that was closed in the underwater case)!! usually researchers use hydrophones, that is a microphone closed in a dry case connected with an amplifier,while they are on the boat.

This is just beautiful. Were you able to hear this for yourself while diving, Scubakix, or were you only able to hear it with some sort of sound amplifying device? If I remember correctly, acoustiscians use some sort of mic that they drop in the water and listen to it through a headset, so I'm not familiar with how it works in the water. I've always thought you couldn't hear them, but I could be wrong - am I?

To thegreatchintal: you can hear a whale sing from very far away, it doesn't have to be close to you. The whale is not in the video because it was probably not around the person filming.
