First time i ever played this was on the ps1, i was a little kid, and i actually killed him. I didn't understand what it meant by the speach when i attacked him, and bloody hell. If you really do want a challenge in becoming a paladin, read my other comment in the video. If you can't find it, all i did was buy a few hi-potions (about 10-15 should do) and use them when you are in between 100-200 HP when fighting the Dark Knight.
Actually. Strenghten is really useful against bosses. My Fire 2 dealt ~700 damage on Scarmiglione but after 1 Strenghten it went up to ~1600. Not that hes hard, its just a note for future bosses.
I know that Cecil was supposed to have a change of heart and what not in the story, but after owning everyone with the Death bringer sword all the way up the mountain, when he came back as a Lv.1 Paladin i was like
"D:.....FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!" lol but hey, at least he got stronger later on. good game.
if cecil's stats carry over than i sure am glas i spent a week fast foward grinding him to like level 60 at speeds 3333% to 5000% really powerful PCs ftw

There's a tell-tale sign that Cain was meant to get white magic. His "Spirit" or "Will" rating at the very beginning of the game is 12 points, which isn't too far below what Rosa and Porom start out with.
I kind of wish there had been a fighter-type character in this game that could use a touch of black magic. His Intelligence rating would have to be somewhat low, and his selection of spells quite wimpy - which would make magic useful only in a few special instances.
@KarlBonner1982 And the "Kain casting a spell" SNES sprites too. I've heard there's a beta screenshot with him actually having the white magic command in his command box, but I've never seen it.
I'm wondering if he would've got the same spells he has in The After Years...
@AquaRing Ya know, I wonder if it's possible to hack the game so that Kain *does* have white magic? If you can hack save states in the notoriously cryptic Seiken Densetsu 3, I bet Final Fantasy IV would be a piece of cake.
@Asildur This one is rather easy to explain. Tellah, being such an old man, lost the ability to cast many spells (Alzheimer's?) , but the light of the Lunarians jogged his memory. As evidenced by Golbez and FuSoYa, Lunarians had the ability to cast Meteor. Lunarians have had contact with the people of earth, so Meteor was taught to the people of earth. Since Tellah lost a lot of his memory, he simply never remembered learning it. It makes sense since Tellah was known for being a "master" sage.
Question: If you do hack this game to give tellah 99 MP is there an animation and everything for Meteo? Or will there be no animation and all the enemies die or will nothing happen?

You claim that you don't prepare for the back attack here because "that takes away from the intended challenge of the battle." I can appreciate that viewpoint, but in your Final Fantasy VII video you DO switch your rows ahead of time before the Motor Ball battle. You should probably develop a consistent position on this issue. You wouldn't want your viewers to think you were wishy-washy, or that you just say certain things for effect.
Yes, it does make perfect sense. Cecil became a MAJOR threat as soon as he attained the powers of the Paladin. Golbeze didn't expect the Mysidians to help him in any way, nor did he perceive Tella as being a threat either.
The first fiend attacked before he became a Paladin. It's just something dumb in the storyline that doesn't make sense, typical flaw where the villian doesn't kill the good guy when he has numerous chances. Don't try to rationalize it, it's just funny, and my post was meant to be humorous.
I was planning on getting FF4 for the DS but after reading many of the comments about it + seeing a couple of battle recordings on it I think I'll pass and just play the PS version heh. I enjoy FF games because of a) the story/character development and b) the fact they're NOT rock hard means I can enjoy "(a)" more.
Making it rock hard just makes it frustrating for me.
IMO FFIVDS is the best version because it is difficult, and in a good way. Pretty much the first six FF games are far TOO easy (especially the remakes). IVDS is difficult, but not overly so, and once you figure out the strategy for a boss it's not that difficult. and there's a trick that makes pretty much all bosses quite easy (use white spell slow; it almost always works on bosses). only boss that's unfair hard is CPU since attack node can spam lazer which almost always insta-kill.
In the DS version of the game if you cast blk maic spells on scarmiglione (The 'g' is silent) his counter inflicts almost a wide range of status on you, it's very bad. Also, he counters physical attacks with cursed elegy, which slows everyone.
it is possible to defeat him with physical attacks but he has about 100,000 hp so yeah... also kain does get white maigc but not till the sequel ffiv: the after years

DS Version FTL, Great game with horrible grafix? They would be better off changing it to PSP or something instead, or make it online on the 360 or something where you can play with your friends and you control your 1 character.
When Scarmiglione says "suck gas and become a zombie", I'm guessing that means he's trying to curse you. If you're cursed, all your stats are halved. He does that in response to spells cast on him.
Also, in the DS version, it is possible to cast Meteor (or Meteo) with Tella without hacking. When you beat the game, you can start a new game plus where all rare summons, Golden and Silver Apples, and Soma Drops, and Augments carry over. Soma Drops raise your max MP by 10, so if you save at least one and give it to Tella during the new game plus, he can deal a 1-hit KO to any boss he encounters after learning the spell. The only problem is it destroys the logic of a future cut-scene.

It's not THAT hard. All you have to do is cast twin magic and let Tellah be the healer. Use Hi-potions with Cecil too and phoenix downs. After 15 rounds or so the boss will be dead, I sayh 15-20 because he casts slow

Usually I tear posts apart, but this does it's own justice. When you graduate from elementary school try again; you could try using Microsoft Word for spell check before you post. Clicking Audio Preview might help you realize how terrible that was =D
I like this theme as well. Also one of my favorites. But I like the theme from FFVI even more, when you fight the Atma Weapon on the Floating Continent.
The first form of the dark Elf is unbeatable. After getting slaughtered, the game continues with your entire team having 1 HP, and it gives you the opportunity to heal and re-equip yourself with your best equipment.
It took me forever to figure out how to beat the dark version of cecil when i was a kid i got so mad at this game then i realized you dont attack just keep urself alive
lol I think it's funny how you didn't change rows before hand in this video, but you changed rows in your FF7 LP before the boss you fight before you leave Midgar.
I always liked how in this game, many characters have limited magic or no magic at all. Sure, it's nice to go grinding with Espers/Materia/whatever and give everybody EVERY SPELL, but you lose some uniqueness that way.
I always loved this part of the game. When Cecil becomes a Paladin, I just get overwhelmed with emotion. There's just something about how he overcomes his past that gets me choked up.

I used everyone else as shields so I didn't die XD "OSHI-!Dark Sword(Whatever the HP drain was..) OSHIII! FRANK(Ramza) IS DEADED!?!? NOOOOOU"
on my first playthrough of FFT(if you don't include the one where i didn't figure out how to add aditional units to a battle and lost 10 times over), I removed Gafgarions gear as soon as he joined the party. the best armor always goes on his majesty Ramza.
This scene suffered the worst from the North American FFII release weakening. Without ever possessing the Dark Wave, how are you to know that it will eventually kill the user? When you know what Dark Wave does, the scene takes on a much more symbolic and artistic meaning.
The darkness in Cecil's heart is destroyed by itself.
Well, I used a Game Genie trying to figure out if he will use Meteo. I gave him 999 MP and he still couldn't cast it. Also, just for kicks, I gave 999 MP to Cain too.
For the longest time, I thought the secret to beating Dark Cecil was using Cure on him. Wasn't until the 3rd or 4th time that I realized you could just do nothing.
Yeah, I doubt it. Look at his health at level 1. And I believe his weapon is stronger than the Dark Knight's weapon. His health is higher than the Dark Knight's by like 200 and the Knight is 18.
All I had to do was defend!?!?!

un the remake this fight is like 1000 times harder cause when he does his gas move it poisons, blinds, slows, sap and silence
so he makes you take damage, stops your attack speed, makes you atacks harder to land and stops you casting magic
also he has high damage

It's not THAT hard. All you have to do is cast twin magic and let Tellah be the healer. Use Hi-potions with Cecil too and phoenix downs. After 15 rounds or so the boss will be dead, I sayh 15-20 because he casts slow

I like this theme as well. Also one of my favorites. But I like the theme from FFVI even more, when you fight the Atma Weapon on the Floating Continent.

The first form of the dark Elf is unbeatable. After getting slaughtered, the game continues with your entire team having 1 HP, and it gives you the opportunity to heal and re-equip yourself with your best equipment.

I always liked how in this game, many characters have limited magic or no magic at all. Sure, it's nice to go grinding with Espers/Materia/whatever and give everybody EVERY SPELL, but you lose some uniqueness that way.

I always loved this part of the game. When Cecil becomes a Paladin, I just get overwhelmed with emotion. There's just something about how he overcomes his past that gets me choked up.

Haha XD Gafgarion. I was pissed when he betrayed me. I was giggling like a school girl the first time I played through FFT with him. "Yes! I got a Dark Knight!" Then he betrayed meee. He wiped my ass out. Seeing as Ramza was a Black Mage with summoning magic and all his gear was tiered towards magic prowess. I used everyone else as shields so I didn't die XD "OSHI-!Dark Sword(Whatever the HP drain was..) OSHIII! FRANK(Ramza) IS DEADED!?!? NOOOOOU"

on my first playthrough of FFT(if you don't include the one where i didn't figure out how to add aditional units to a battle and lost 10 times over), I removed Gafgarions gear as soon as he joined the party. the best armor always goes on his majesty Ramza.

the first time i played ff4 and got to this point i just kept attacking and like 10 mins later i killed him
I was 6 and could barly read so i couldnt really understand most of the shit going on in this game

This scene suffered the worst from the North American FFII release weakening. Without ever possessing the Dark Wave, how are you to know that it will eventually kill the user? When you know what Dark Wave does, the scene takes on a much more symbolic and artistic meaning.
The darkness in Cecil's heart is destroyed by itself.

Well, I used a Game Genie trying to figure out if he will use Meteo. I gave him 999 MP and he still couldn't cast it. Also, just for kicks, I gave 999 MP to Cain too.

It's funny how Cecil now is level 1 :P My guess is it's because of a combination of dificult coding and white magic :P And lazyness.

Yeah, I doubt it. Look at his health at level 1. And I believe his weapon is stronger than the Dark Knight's weapon. His health is higher than the Dark Knight's by like 200 and the Knight is 18.
