The comparison between LT and Butkus are like comparing Joe Louis to Ali, different time, different game and basically a different position. Middle Linebackers dominated the game in the 60s and 70s! LT changed all that and the outside linebackers became more dominant in the 80s. Both men were animals, they should be tied for #1 and Jack Lambert is hands down #2!!!

Butkus was the size of a 1960's tackle, so it's hard to compare him with today's players. He dominated a lot more than any LB could today. Imagine Ray Lewis weighing 300, and not losing any speed. That was Butkus. He's 1. Taylor 2 though. Singletary WAY overrated. Not even as good as Urlacher, let alone Lewis, Seau, etc. Not a top 10 LB, and I love the Bears. Wasn't even the best LB on his own team.

You really can't compare yesterday's players with todays because although today's players are bigger and faster, earlier players were tougher and played a tougher game, they played hurt, they played harder and the rules were different. The refs didn't appease every crybaby and they played because THEY LOVED THE GAME. SOME HAD SIDE JOBS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T MAKE THE KIND OF MONEY THEY MAKE TODAY. The players didn't go on injured reserve after signing a big contract either.
