You are right. The AVI looks about as good as the original, much larger MOV file.
I would love to know how to edit video and still images and then put them back on the SD card so that I can play them on my HDTV. Potentially a great way to do a "slide show" for group of people.
The question is, what steps did you do to convert it?

I used "Video Pad" originally to convert both the MOV and the AVCHD (MTS) to AVI.
Now I use Win7 Home Premium.
