  • I absolutely love this song!!! This choir did very will. This has to the best arrangment of Shenandoah... James Erb......This just brings me to tears. Good sound from the basses!!!

  • Pretty good performance for high school chorus. Best I've heard of this song is by St Olaf chorus using same James Erb echo rendition. I'm not sure its on YouTube but have it on ITunes. Love this song

  • @TheDooWopPop I just heard the St Olaf Choir last week in Virginia and there is now a video of their performance from that concert on YouTube...even with the few coughs that were recorded, the performance was stellar!

  • there are parts where they lag.

  • Probably the best version I've found so far on YouTube. Thanks! =)

  • why are people so harsh on high school groups? for their ages, they've done great work. women's tone is beautiful.

  • this is soo soo beautiful! amazing arrangement...wow. chills. and the chorus is good...for high school...really impressed, great tone!

  • Very nice piece, but it be nice to see some facial expressions. Hardly any of the singers seem moved at all, and it's such a beautiful text.

  • On the other hand, it's nice to see (hear!) a group of singers who are not letting tension and all sorts of extra-musical mannerisms creep into their bodies and faces!

  • I was there. Normally we worked on facial expressions, but it was REALLY hot in there and crowded. We didn't really fit in that tiny church. I actually got tunnel vision part way through this piece. So we were a little stressed :)

  • Very nice technique (specifically tone and vowel sound) for a high school choir.

  • this is kinda pitchy, but overall VERY good

  • I ADORE this piece. My choir is singing this piece and everytime i sing it i get chills.

  • Very nice, rich tones. I love the sound of voices coming together to make beautiful music. My college choir sang this song many years ago. What a beautiful piece! Good job!

  • I fell in love with this song when I heard it as a child. But James Erb's arrangement as sung here is the best of any ever written....its just beautiful. This choir is good, but I have heard even better.

  • I agree James Erb's arrangement is the best version. The echoes in it are superb and Erb's interpretation of conveying the longing you feel in the music is spot on. This high school performance, however was just mediocre and the ending was a little too long.

  • My son was a member of the Philadelphia Boys Choir awhile back and they sang Erb's arrangement...used to give me chils. :) I have the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's version and except for the fact that they seem to slow it down a little TOO much, its excellent.

  • I agree with JAnthony37 :)

  • This is a great choir....it really, really is- especially the women. Still...the best version I have ever heard of this arrangement was by the Northport High School Choir (NY) conducted by Sandy Valerio. One of these days I'll post it. In any event.....this is very, very good.

  • The talent is there and this was kicking ass until about the 3 minute mark when they started singing in "rounds" like it was Row, Row, Row Your Boat or something. Great song, very good singers, crappy arrangement.

  • definately have to disagree here.

I think this is the best arrangement of this song that there is. And the round is probably the best part of it, guess its just a matter of taste.

I do agree though that this group has good singers and a good sound...As for "singingsox" I think that their being a bit flat was a result of the dragging tempo.

    Great job overall though

  • Crappy arrangement? Oh goodness no! This is one of THE standard arrangements of this song and for very good reason!! I absolutely love this choir, though I think the beginning is a tad (just a tad) too slow.

  • While I'm not usually a fan of rounds at all, I disagree about this arrangement being crappy. The round effect actually works with the piece very well, and the movement and harmonies are well-developed.

  • Excellent vowels for girls, not so much for men.

The key drifted down one, starting with the second verse with the men..but that's okay. You all stayed in key with each other. And, not enough dynamic contrast for my liking, and I know the song is all about the girls, but it would have been nice to hear the guys.

    Overall very good.

  • you forget, this is on video although it may be live, it may be a different opinion if you were actually there

  • The guys did bring it down by a few microtones though; their first high note was just a little flat

  • wow it was so good i didn't even realize it was a capella till half way through the video!

  • This was a wonderful performance... lovely vowels women

  • This really is a fantastic rendition! Just beautiful.

  • this is great for amateur choir! just the ending lets it down a bit, and girl-heavy, but maybe that's just the recording set up.
