My dog had one in his ear and we thought it was a skin tag. It looked nothing like a tick.  The vet said it was a female tick, and they look much different than a male.

@anirudhkrishnamani you could try to pull them off yourself, but it might not work out too well. take it to the vet or tick bathe it and then kill all the ticks. i'm not really sure but give it a try

The females are the only ones that parasite off of larger animals like cats, dogs, or humans. In sum species the males parasite off the females.

Ok i' am pretty sure that's not the case.Males are black and females have a brick-red abdomen with a black shield-like plate close to their head.Females as well as male ticks feed off pretty much any host with blood they find.The difference is that the adult female tick needs a large 3 day blood meal from the host before she can reproduce and lay her 2000 or more eggs.
