However, the Western United states has one of the world's largest polygamist populations in the world, even if it is not legal. I agree. But it doesn't matter if it' the man/woman union is heterosexual, homosexual, multiple husbands/wives, single parent, etc. - the important thing is the child. The children are what need to be considered. If I was a little child - girl or boy - I wouldn't mind if more than one daddy in the home as long as I was cherished and loved and cared for and appreciated. That's what counts.
This seems a lot more sensible than a lot of culturally defined polyamorous relationships, it just seems to be based on convenience and practicality. In many cases it is easy to see one gender or class taking advantage of another. Granted I wouldn't want to do this, the idea of sharing a wife with my older brother would be really weird, but I didn't grow up with it.
I would be willing to share a woman I loved with another man. Because I'd rather share a woman I loved than be without her at all. That's what true love is. That no matter what, you don't want to lose that person. As long as I knew she deeply loved me and was devoted to me from the bottom her heart, I could accept her loving and having sex with other people.
Note to all: The responses that were critical of polyandry are the result of "Culture Shock". I've experienced culture shock myself. Culture shock is a heavy emotional reaction to something another people practice that differers from what we do.
I think this is great. I mean I wouldn't be able to do it, but it makes a lot of sense. There's a lot of "men's work" that needs to be done and it's helpful to the woman, who is home with the children and cooking and cleaning.

@theirresistableE It is a widely held belief that there are so many women & too few men everywhere. This is true sometimes- certainly after wars (where women don't partake in fighting) & amongst African Americans for socio-political reasons. In some parts of the world (China, India) men outnumber women quite a bit. I was reading just recently that there are 70million (!) more men than women in China, & men resort to kidnapping women or buying them in from neighbouring countries, etc.

Honest to God I have no idea how any woman or man could live with more than one spouse and not lose their mind. It's incredibly difficult to compromise with one other adult and to make the other person happy/satisfied. Marriage to multiple people must be quite a burden.

Not all 'sex' is for the purpose of impregnation, and not all sex is centered on sexual intercourse, only. I am aware of the workings of impregnation and pregnancy! By sexual capacity - the potential for multiple orgasms, which is huge and varied for us women, and not as limited as some might think. Women's sexual anatomy & ability to orgasm easily, repeatedly and powerfully might be more complex than some people are currently aware, or have experienced.. the ladies in the video might know!

@NoJamOnYourBread You are certainly right about men impregnating a lot of women because a healthy man produces millions of sperm, which could, in theory, impregnate thousands of women in one go. But it's not like they are sperm machines. I suppose that's 'reproductive capacity'. But, to explain, sex and reproduction are separate things (unless everybody ONLY has sex for pregnancy, which they don't). Of course a man has to orgasm to impregnate, a woman need not orgasm to become pregnant.

Consider this: what is the difference between keeping 3 spouses at once and having 2 ex-spouses and 1 current spouse (i.e. through divorce/remarriage). Answer: it's how many people are there to do the work and share raising the children at a given time. Polyamory (polyandry or polygamy or both at once) is practical. It is only extreme selfishness and religious indoctrination that makes people turn away from this idea. If you can only love what is only yours, you have a small idea of love.

However, the Western United states has one of the world's largest polygamist populations in the world, even if it is not legal. There are such compounds in Canada and Mexico as well, to a lesser extent. So be careful with such generalizations.

If only most cultures were accepting toward the notion of a woman with multiple husbands. What's hypocritical is the fact that In some cultures a man can have up to 4 wives and yet have a woman accused of adultery if she's with a man who isn't a family member.

I agree. But it doesn't matter if it' the man/woman union is heterosexual, homosexual, multiple husbands/wives, single parent, etc. - the important thing is the child. The children are what need to be considered. If I was a little child - girl or boy - I wouldn't mind if more than one daddy in the home as long as I was cherished and loved and cared for and appreciated. That's what counts.

This seems a lot more sensible than a lot of culturally defined polyamorous relationships, it just seems to be based on convenience and practicality. In many cases it is easy to see one gender or class taking advantage of another. Granted I wouldn't want to do this, the idea of sharing a wife with my older brother would be really weird, but I didn't grow up with it.

I would be willing to share a woman I loved with another man. Because I'd rather share a woman I loved than be without her at all. That's what true love is. That no matter what, you don't want to lose that person. As long as I knew she deeply loved me and was devoted to me from the bottom her heart, I could accept her loving and having sex with other people.

I think this is great. I mean I wouldn't be able to do it, but it makes a lot of sense. There's a lot of "men's work" that needs to be done and it's helpful to the woman, who is home with the children and cooking and cleaning.
