Dave Weckl has a certain fluidity, finesse, if you will, in his playing. You dont really see or feel this in a lot of the other great drummers of today. Ive seen glimpses of it in JoJo Mayer and also in Steve Smith playing. This is just a comment on style not who is the best drummer. Just an observation

I totally agree. I look for this in sports too. I like people who move well. Weckl is very ellogant. Bruce Lee moved very well too. Their fluidity makes them enjoyable to watch, and it makes a difference! Apart from natural proprioceptif talent I do believe that Weckl never trys to play something which is at the physical limits of his technique which allows him to stay relaxed and fluid. He is a very double stroke oriented player which is physically less challenging than singles

Truth be told... Buddy Rich was a fantastic drummer of his time... BUT! He was never at the level that Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, etc... Buddy could not have played the song in this video. Buddy was not that complex of a drummer, his main focus was doing paradiddle's on his snare... that was it.

The only person that i or anyone could really compare to Dave Weckl is Buddy Rich. I've done some research and Weckl learned some of his stuff from Buddy Rich. Honestly, I can't blame him. Another thing with travis is that his drums has evolved into a 20 foot long tunnel of a bass drum and drowns out any sound his toms or snare could make. He is really into this boomy bass drum rock to the point where it doesn't sound like anything but loud bangs. Dave's set along with Gadd the drums are all equal tone. Nothing over rides eachother.

Whats wrong with using Metronome, practicing with metro is very important, thats what gives you timing and is essential to improve subdivisions, borrowed times, and playing around with time without going off tempo; its part of your routine. After a while you get use to playing in tempo. Dont get me wrong Travis sucks
