A rotastak cage or using a large box to make a playpen for the hamster might keep him busy. I do that for my gerbils. You cud try putting tunnel, little houses and steps and stuff in the playpen.

I had a hamster that did this once....he had toys and everything too. Just decided he'd check out his cage a little more! lol Only difference between your hamster and the one I had is that mine mananged to keep his back paws on the bars at all times. He fell off the cieling once too but he just went back and did it again! lol
