Avg is not bad but is getting bloated with every release. Be sure to uninstall any other anti-virus apps before installing MS Essentials.

No software can not destroy hardware. If you ever have someone tell you that they do not know what they are talking about. Most of the things you see on TV are outing stuff on your computer. I built a system and first thing I did was let there site scan the computer. I had spyware and virus or so they say. This was a clean build with nothing on it but windows. It is a scam. Software breaking hardware is like saying the TV show broke your TV.

Gotta mention that there are other programs such as driver genius, and alternatively 3dpchip (which is free) that will update all of your drivers. If you purchase ram, try buying ram from Newegg.com rather than buying it in-shop. Buying ram in-shop is just another ripoff. Technophobes are taken advantage of so badly that it's sickening. Kingston VALURAM, or VALUERAM will work just fine. I could go in-depth, but there are more resources on the net that can go into detail about it.

Generally no because they are usually part of the mainboard. However some of the high end gaming models from manufacturers like Alienware are more modular and allow more flexibility. For high end graphics and for ease of upgrading it's much better to get a desktop. And be sure to get at least a regular sized tower and not one of those micro (skinny) ones that require low profile cards. That way you don't limit your choices.

@spatryx Thats a myth, using Linux doesn't necessarily protect you from malware it's just that the cyber criminals rather spread their malware using windows and microsoft as a medium because it's more marketable. No matter what you use whether it's Mac or Linux you can still get infected. The best thing to do is to keep your computer updated at all times and that includes adobe reader etc etc, and to have a good fire wall and anti virus program.

They want to keep running as long as possible. Now of course there are exceptions but they are rare.

@dadecountii305 I don't think ccleaner is capable of removing any viruses it removes temporary files, cookies and unnecessary files on your computer. However if you ever plan on using ccleaner do not ever use it to clean out your registry. You can damage your pc this way. Btw i only think you get a slight improvement in speed from using ccleaner, but it's highly recommended that you stay away from the registry.
@AQWthelight022 Okay, all you need to do is go into safe mode with networking, download malwarebytes, let it scan, and remove all the viruses it has found. You should be fine after that. OR, do a system restore.
Malwarebytes should be run in Normal mode. The only time safe mode should be used is if it won't run in normal mode. Malwarebytes is more effective and quicker in Normal Mode.

BSODs are usually (and I think always if I'm not mistaken) caused by a HARDWARE failure. God, that makes me fed up when they say it's from a virus. There are FAKE BSOD's they use to get you to reboot your computer so their virus can install, but you can just hit ctrl+alt+delete to get out of it and run a scan.
And besides, if you get a virus you can do system restore or factory restore.
So say someone bought a pc from gateway that was already preloaded with malware and spyware etc. Would your recommended alternatives help to get rid of them just as the my clean pc ripoff would?

Ways you can tell a program is a scam.
1. You cannot uninstall it. (with exception of operating systems)
2. Contrary to the first method, it asks you why you want to uninstall. (exceptions unknown)
3. It shows false events/occasions/etc.
4. It "mousetraps" you.
5. The program was DL'ed as a torrent. (Exceptions unknown)
6. The commercial adding the program obviously is targeting, basically old and (subject)-illiterate people.

Generally no because they are usually part of the mainboard. However some of the high end gaming models from manufacturers like Alienware are more modular and allow more flexibility. For high end graphics and for ease of upgrading it's much better to get a desktop. And be sure to get at least a regular sized tower and not one of those micro (skinny) ones that require low profile cards. That way you don't limit your choices.

Use LINUX! Then you will never have to worry about Viruses or Malware, it is fast, runs on old computers and most of the software you will need is free.... you can even run SOME of your windows programs using Wine... Zorin OS is great for windows users. You can burn it to a CD and try it without installing it on your hard drive! BTW if you have an Android phone or tablet, you are already using Linux! Invigorating, isn't it?

@spatryx Thats a myth, using Linux doesn't necessarily protect you from malware it's just that the cyber criminals rather spread their malware using windows and microsoft as a medium because it's more marketable. No matter what you use whether it's Mac or Linux you can still get infected. The best thing to do is to keep your computer updated at all times and that includes adobe reader etc etc, and to have a good fire wall and anti virus program.

Most PCs will crash or shut down before any hardware damage is done. Also not all fan control utilities are able to work with just any bios. Besides, the majority of malware and viruses are designed to either spread( in the case of viruses) or scam for money or passwords (in the case of malware) so the last thing they want or need is for their victims's computers to shut down. They want to keep running as long as possible. Now of course there are exceptions but they are rare.

MyCleanPc was an old rogue called Malware Away Plus, That never really got out onto the net because of complications, Basically, the richboy that copy pasted some code in visual basic the first time with Malware Away Plus, Went one step further by doing it again to get the look. I have both but revo has much more to offer, it gets rid of duplicate files and traces uninstalls and leftovers that CC misses. I've tried free scans from similar products before just for the hell of it. All of them come up saying that I have thousands upon thousands of problems. I know the scan is full of shit. My comp is custom built and works like a charm lol.

@dadecountii305 I don't think ccleaner is capable of removing any viruses it removes temporary files, cookies and unnecessary files on your computer. However if you ever plan on using ccleaner do not ever use it to clean out your registry. You can damage your pc this way. Btw i only think you get a slight improvement in speed from using ccleaner, but it's highly recommended that you stay away from the registry.

@AQWthelight022 Okay, all you need to do is go into safe mode with networking, download malwarebytes, let it scan, and remove all the viruses it has found. You should be fine after that. OR, do a system restore.

Malwarebytes should be run in Normal mode. The only time safe mode should be used is if it won't run in normal mode. Malwarebytes is more effective and quicker in Normal Mode.

This ad sickens me.
BSODs are usually (and I think always if I'm not mistaken) caused by a HARDWARE failure. God, that makes me fed up when they say it's from a virus. There are FAKE BSOD's they use to get you to reboot your computer so their virus can install, but you can just hit ctrl+alt+delete to get out of it and run a scan.
And besides, if you get a virus you can do system restore or factory restore.
God, stupid con artists.
