@lukesharpe im not so sure. the am chord is fairly common in all rock music, and its only that both songs start with that chord. its pretty tricky for anyone to write a song using standard chords without tripping on somebody else's work. that's one of the reasons me likes non-standard chords... :) mmmm... yummy :)

Have a listen to Blue Oyster Cult ' don't fear the reaper'. I'm sure that's where the song is influenced from.
