The Alaskans who actually haul on the Dalton all year long are the real deal. My husband was one, and he would have thought these guys were a joke. I say "would have" because he died behind the wheel in 2008. The real drama and danger of that road is NOT at all represented by these folks. They're just filming a tv show. Notice there's no footage of inside Coldfoot or Hilltop (the two truck stops)? Yeah, that's where the real drama is, right there!
one more note: The show is also strecthed to breaking point.... it should be condensed and more needs to be said about the lives of the truckers themselves. There is far too much repetition.... but that is the usual TV BS, which is why I don't own a television.
Amtrak is not entirely wrong. The show is interesting, however, as a comment in itself. It is overly hyped, the announcer is constantly trying to freak out the audience with danger, but all he talks about is money, money, money. Trucking is more than that, it is a lifestyle and maybe even a subculture. About three decades ago I saw a BBC report on the Siberian truckers... now there are some tough guys. The road makes the Dalton look like the NY Thruway.
well a lot of times even on satellite television, you either get to watch this or just look out the window for entertainment. plus, a lot of truck drivers, like my old man, enjoying watching the trucks that they use daily, get pushed to the extremes. and it's cool to see how they do everything in that climate...
it's obviously not your cup of tea, but i enjoy watching it alot. plus, they really don't do drama. or not even nearly as much as most other shows. that alone makes it better
Yeah, I've seen the fucking show. It's horrible, and most of the time centers around a lot of fat guys driving their trucks or sitting around in a mechanic's shop for their truck to be repaired. Watch the freaking intro and you hear everything it says about the damn ice road; the rest is fat guys driving.
I'm aware of the role trucking plays in transportation and shipping. Does that mean making a reality show about it and putting it on the History Channel alongside shows about world wars, plagues, etc. is a good idea? Nope, especially when the show itself is almost exclusively about watching them sit around in their cab talking to themselves.
well here it runs on another channel, its a bit much talking in the show and i guess you need to be a trucker to know what they mean and enjoy the show to the full. but still its a good show for anyone to watch, people can learn from it.
i wonder how bad they smell....since they barely take showers

Ice Road Truckers is such a horrible show. Sorry, but watching lots of fat guys drive a truck isn't history.
