In fact, from open secrets.org: John Boehner recieved $67,750 from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from 1998 to 2008, and in that same time period, Mitch Mcconnell recieved $41,000 and Eric Cantor received $48,500.
One more thing: Of the Republicans depicted in this video for regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac: Ed Royce recieved $28,000 in contributions from them, Don Manzullo only recieved $250 but many Republicans including John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Mitch Mcconnell recieved much more.
BTW, what caused this mess wasn't just easy lending to minorities and the poor, it was because of predatory lenders selling mortgages to people that had adjustable interest rates that reset to much higher interest rates in the near future, making the monthly payment balloon. In turn, banks that issued these mortgages packaged them into CDOs: securities backed by mortgage debt, and sold them to investors around the world (with faulty AAA ratings), and thus made a lot of people to hold the bag.
Both Democrats and Republicans have been bought off by the powerful, though I would say that the Republicans initially got more funding from corporate america (well, they've always been the business party) and Democrats only followed to compete with the Republicans. The original Democratic Leadership Council is what corrupted the Democratic Party with corporate money because it was led by the equivalent of moderate republicans. Many Democrats aren't left wingers after all.
Your inter-cut clips mean nothing in the context of Reich's remarks. The housing crisis happened because of a loosening of REGULATIONS that allowed banks to create risky ways to make money by bundling loans, credit default swaps, etc, and because they no longer had to keep as much cash on hand (capitalization) as they once did. Reich speaks the truth.
The way Armando Falcone was treated in the hearings shown here was outrageous and disgusting. It is time to make the Congressional black caucus an illegal entitiy within the H of R.
Reich is saying politicians, and many republicans (but not the republicans shown on this video) are acting in the benefit of the rich, because of the ties between wall street and the Senate and House of Rep.
there are politicians from both parties taking the side of the rich on this issue, what boggles my mind is that you all think these parties hvae certain beliefs just because a series of videos are strung together of out of context.
Racist midget. These pigs are all throughout the media and government. For all you Caucasians that have children, you need to spend lots of time explaining to them what's going on in this country concerning how the agenda for people in places of power and prestige is to denigrate, marginalize, ... and ultimately kill-off all Caucasians. THAT's what's going on -- destroy "whitey" in all ways possible on every level over the course of time!
Ted Koppel -- YOU started this shit and you know it!!
@jeremeyshicks Bitch... are you for real? He opens up by saying Republicans didn't want regulation on housing and then it cuts to the Republican's trying to get regulation on housing markets, namely Fannie and Freddy. Who is blocking the Republicans? Democrats.
@TheRudeNews - first off I'd love to see you call me a Bitch outside these pixels and second Quote his words put them in print and read them! He says rebpublicans and Bush look the other way, then says they have "avoided" any kind of a regulatory! First they look the other way, then avoided, hmmm kinda mean the same do they not BITCH!

@jeremeyshicks Actually Ron paul warned of this, and other republicans wanted to change it. But we have to put a man in office that offers real change not just a figure head for elitist like Obama. RON PAUL 2012
@Lesrevil08 , I was not aware of that but do support some of Ron Paul's words, beliefs, statements, etc. I support him for the most part and even 'liked' him on FB.
@pisol187 He was our best candidate for 2008, I really want people to ramp his name up for 2012, his biggest problem is that he does not fuel core emotional values to the far left or right. So they smear him with lies and hide his words
@TheRudeNews Republicans are notoriously antiregulation so whatever regulation would come out of this would be paltry, and I think this is perhaps more of an intent for Republicans to cover their ass given that they sponsored the Commodity Futures Modernization Act (that allowed for the explosive derivatives market to get out of control) and the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (which broke the division between investment and commercial banks),both leading to the subprime meltdown and derivatives scare.
@jeremeyshicks Reich is saying politicians, and many republicans (but not the republicans shown on this video) are acting in the benefit of the rich, because of the ties between wall street and the Senate and House of Rep.

Reich is a bald-faced LIAR! It was the Dems who blocked any regulation of Fanny and Freddie Mac! The ACLU threatened LAWSUITS unless these two institutions provided loans to people who didn't have an income. Now the taxpayers will be buying their homes for them. This is the biggest Marxist-socialist scam they've pulled EVER. Hard working taxpayers buying houses for lazy low lifes.
So you have evidence that they talk about oversight. That's fine. But did they pass laws on it?
Now, would Democrats have done better? Not necessarily. However, it is clear the Republicans were at the helm. Banks thought they could do creative financial engineering because of this lack of regulation and they did. That's on Republicans.
So hopefully we learn something from this experience about regulation, not politics. It's not about Republicans and Democrats.
Clearly, Robert Reich is MUCH smarter than you, original poster, and you, too mike8307. I saw him speak last night with Newt Gingrich of all people - they both agree that Republican government is broken and on it's way to ruin if McCain/Palin are elected. Thank you for posting a video confirming the validity of it.
Looking for news, facts and truth from Rachel Madcow is like looking for gold from the rear end of a horse. Not much surprise that Robert Reich goes from Clinton Sec of Labor to UC Berkley.
"Well, er er ah ah er er ahhhhh.. you know.. hmmm.. I've got a bracelet too."
Correction from the last post, it was not 1998 to 2008, it was 1989 to 2008.

Obama claims to support transparency, that is a good idea.
Lets put it to practice, have your congress critter support HR1207 to audit the FED.
