  • I searched for 15 minutes to find this video...I found it very useful when I checked it months ago.......I am gonna sub! Thanks!

  • Kudos on the ingenuity on the PVC frame!! Totally rocking this in my Melbourne studio.. xx

  • Great ideas--thank you for making this video! You're so cute. :)

  • THANK YOU Shee!!! this video was VERY helpful to me and i'm now subscribed to you ^^

  • This was soo sweet of u to make these videos, for everyone! God bless! :) trinified2011

  • It's called, Get a Job,. make some money, and invest in your business. If it's a Hobby, save for it from your work money. If you plan on using Vocals for your profession but have no money, you are in the wrong profession.

I heard McDonald's is hiring and they give 50% off Chicken Nuggets.

  • I'd like a video of you demonstrating these techniques so i can hear for myself what it would sound like

  • Thanks for the video, would you mind telling me where you got the sound blankets?

  • thanks for the advice. Big help :D

  • ???

Where does that leave using the Blue Snowball mic then? (conspicuously NOT amongst your mic reccommendations). Is the snowball ommitted because it picks up too much surround?

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeet thank you just saved my life dear

  • thank you so much - I really appreciate you sharing this! I'm gonna build myself a PVC frame & get the mute blanket!! : )

  • How exactly did you build the booth, and where did you buy the blanket?

  • Hi,

How do you reccommend I record a drum set? Should I build the "poor man's vocal booth" but slightly larger? I have sound coming from the ceiling, could I just place a blanket abouve the drum kit...the basement isnt echoey.

  • what if we don't have a closet and we want to build a booth? do i get drywalls or plywood?

  • have any1 check the prices for those audimute blankets??

to fit a small closet you to buy at least 5 blankets.. every piece worths 65$

that makes 325$.. i dont call that cheap.. for that price i can get 24 to 32 pieces of real soundproofing foam on ebay or amazon..

  • ima atleast try to save 1000 dollars so i can buy me a high tec mic and other things

  • thanks for the tips...a 20. queensize eggcrate from target worked like crazy for me so anyone lookin for soundproofing thats ur best low cost option....trust me it works perfect

  • hi shee! thank you so much for your informative video! i bought the blankets and the se reflection filter... i built the pvc room but it didn't work out well enough so, in the end, i ended up building a room in my basement as well. two question: 1) do you think using the blankets in the room would be enough or do i have to use those panels? 2. the se reflection filter didn't come with those extra filter pices (the one the is over the mic and behind it. where can i find that?

    Thanks!!

    :0)

  • Great video and very informative. Keep posting! I learned a lot!. Peace!

  • I knew i was going to like you from the first 60 seconds...

  • Hi Shee, I have a budget of $500; Can you please give me a list of important equipments that I can purchase to make and record with my own home studio. I am thinking about using reason or Fruity Loops software to make my instrumental (beats). Your respond is greatly appreciated, thank-you! Oh, my e-mail address is mekiaa78@yahoo.com

  • would u plz suggest me a mic for recording

  • u look like jordin sparks the only difference is u dont suck

  • Come on.. You're talking about acoustic treatment for producers, and you have no sort of compression placed on your voice? Your voice is very beautiful, but due to the varying dynamics of your voice (which is normal) I'm getting a headache listening... Is this a live recording, or was this pre-recorded?

  • GUD iNFO. QUEEN....THANXX

  • Great advice for all pocket types.

  • daym gurl youse tight! loving you much ! thanks fo the tips

  • Cool informative video. The PVC one really appealed to me. THanks for the info on not only booth materials but Mics as well.

  • Hi Shee, I've been looking at thousands of videos all over the net and honestly say that you obviously spent ALOT of time to learn your craft unlike alot of idiots out there. I appreciated the time watching. Keep up the good work.

  • Nice video but...that all looks expensive as hell I thought you said "cheap" sound proofing? I tried that SE thing and took it back too expensive it worked but I needed the money (yes I'm cheap! it's recession okay), then I thought I'd get something that looked just like it and got one of those SE look alike things. Waste of money cheap foam flimsy metal. I all but gave up then I found this portable booth thing at Soundkitz and that thing was cheap and just like the SEone I paid 300 for.

  • @SHEEmusic i have a 7ft by 6ft walk in closet do i need to put up foam completly covering all the walls or can i do like diamond shapes containing 4 1ft squares.....on one each wall will that be good enough or will i need to go further btw it will be auralex foam

  • thanks 4 sharing your knowledge! i learned a lot.. i really appreciate it

  • THANKS FOR THE TIPS SHEEmusic!!!

  • thank for the tips keep up the good work

  • logitech makes a great recording microphone.(the one from rockband) it records drums really well also. just one mic can pick everything up.

  • @matgta3

    lol... miniplug?

  • Great job! Very helpful - Thanks for putting this together!

  • this is the best video out in reguards to this, this really helped me, thank you and God bless!!!!!!!

  • i have the same computer chair....

  • thanks for the tour!

  • Very good work! Good to see girls talking about home studios these days...

some years ago you must be a nerd to understend and to set up a home studio

    Once again, nice work baby

    you are real good!

  • booths always sound small and way to dry , i broke down mine.

it's better to hang up an anti reflection screen somewhere near a wall with a little foam ,it sounds better and it's only 30$

  • If you have a vocal booth soundproofed out how do you get the cords for the earphones microphone on all that. do you drill a hole?

  • Wow..its definately dope 2 see a women who knows her craft and what she's talking about. just closed the lease on some studio space this video will diefinate play a major role in saving 4 the budget Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sis, that was a Lovely Delivery. I watched it 2x in a row. (lol) YEA. WELL DONE

  • Hey, that's picture of Obama.

  • Very useful! Thanks!

  • What are those panels you have for recording acoustic guitar in a non treated room? I can't think of the name for them, i'm trying to buy some like NOW. :(

  • Im starting from scratch and this video was very informative. I can tell that you are a very intelligent black woman and i would love to ask more questions. keep the videos coming.

  • Acoustical solutions LOL

  • Netshows likes this video and we invite you to promote it on the Netshows Website (netshows.us)

    ~Chic and Peter

  • OH...another question...I LOVE the PVC pipe booth you made. My own brainchild was to purchase a pretty room screen which, when I'm not recording, screens off the "studio" in the corner of my bedroom; and when I am, serves as something to hang fleece blankets over and I sort of fold it around myself with the mic in the middle. Still, the computer fan is a problem. 1) Could the PVC structure be collapsible (for when my room becomes a bedroom again), and 2) would it screen out the computer fan?

  • Would that sound cancellation capsule be effective in eliminating noise from my computer fan?

  • That was very informative and helpful. Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge. You've given me some ideas.

  • cgmprods webs com

  • why you record that way?, use a decent mike, any room without bad reflections, dont spend money on nonsenses, and lear to use your software....

  • Very helpful....even more admirable that your a woman with engineering knowledge.

  • this is great i love this video and this is just what i needed, thank you so much i always got down to recording n stopped because my voice sounds like shit with buzzing but now i know what i need to apply thanks

  • Recording vocals in a closet is a good solution for those lacking funds.

  • we and my girl love your video..very imformative..keep it up

  • what do you think about the samson g- tracc

  • I have a condenser mxl mic

  • hey were did u get you blankets?

  • What are the paintings behind you att 5:00 ? I LOVE THEM!

  • @mayfire - thanks - its a jazz inspired piece by a talented Canadian painter named Mark Kazav...I LOVE THEM too :-)

  • @SHEEmusic Thanks for that ;) Cheers

  • Check out my video if you want to see how i made mine.

  • you are always giving great advice i have as my friend on myspace and i always read those bulletins you be posting.....thanx for the advice you always give

    god bless you

  • just go to wal mart and buy pillow top foam, or you can go to a second hand store and buy a bunch of down feather comforters. . . . .

  • grate video. hey get at me if u ca,n i wana ask u some more questions!

  • Good ideas. However, acoustic foam not so good compared to rigid fiberglass (price or effectiveness). Remember that the NRC rating is not the proper measurement for sound absorbtion. This is an average of just the midrange bands (250 Hz through 2.0 KHz) and is not useful when comparing materials for recording studios and music rooms. One must consider the absorbtion coeffiecient at each frequency range.

  • awesome job shorty.

  • Thank you for the advice, may God bless you with many spiritual gift for your gift of knowledge today. Thanks again Chequita

  • You have a remarkable speaking voice. I'm only a few seconds in to the video, so don't know if you sing in it.

  • This is very helpful. One tip..you can put a dumb-bell weight at the bottom of your mic stand when using that heavy SE item. Cool vid..thanks.

  • a good microphone is Blu Snowball only 100$ its a usb plug in!

  • im interested in building the booth out of pvc and audimute sheets, my question is whether or not it will take away alot of the reverb i am getting in my room. and if it will give me a dryer signal for vocals, i was gonna pick up the reflexion filter but the guy at guitar center recomended a $150 mic stand and i wasnt ready to spend that much.

  • A Samson mic with a built-in noise cancellation capsule? No such thing....

  • I really appreciate you sharing you info! You kick so much ass!

  • does any 1 no how to make an air hole in soundproof room?...

  • @FiSTFigHT09 remove a peice of carpet you dont wanna no how i found out :)

  • remove a piece of carpet??, could you explain that a lil more plz and thank you :)... by da way, how did you find out if i could know :)

  • @FiSTFigHT09 well what you do is by the door you remove a long peice of carpet, u cut out a piece of the carpet like under the door area it happened when i use to be in band, a bunch of kids were messing around the soundproof rooms and well they accidently ripped the carpet like under the door and u cud hear everything they were talking about

  • WHERE DID U SAY U GOT THE 50 DOLLAR MIC

  • u can go on ebay n buy mics there they can get pretty cheap just type in condenser mic

  • This was very helpful thank you a lot!!

  • Excellent!

  • Hey nice advice there. Thanks!

  • Great video miss. this video helped a lot

  • Great video...she is gorgeous as well..

  • This was a great video. I just bought the reflexion yesterday. Didn't know about the aurelex. I will pick that up also. The tidbit about the mics is priceless. My current mic is picking up the sound of the furnace pilot light. It's been driving me crazy for the longest. I will try out some other mics to see if I get better results. I'm also going to play around with a noise gate. Your fellow Sheengineer!

  • Good stuff! In the $0-100 category you can make a Porta-Booth (search YouTube for it) for $25-30. Harlan Hogan's site (Google "portabootharticle") tells you about it and how to make one. Works well and it's portable. Noisy house? Put he Porta-Booth, laptop, and mic in your car and drive to a quiet place and record in your car.

  • wtf??, das hela sick

  • Wack

  • FOAM FOR VOCAL RECORDINGS?

foam only absorbs down to 500HZ

but the the problem zone for vocals are 120 - 350 hz .....so u better get some serious BROADBAND ABSORBERS FOR 200$ .....foam is good to pack things thats it..

    ASK ETHAN WINER

  • @schkeuditzcity It depends on how thick the foam is. I have four inch foam and it works pretty good for low frequency absorption. Just about as well as owens corning or roxul.

  • @zachabend thats bull! Show some specs....!?

  • @schkeuditzcity look on auralex's master product absorption table for yourself. If you've looked at Bob Gold's table, which I'm assuming you have, even owens corning or roxul doesn't fair that well at 125 hertz, at the same thickness as foam, but at 250 to 500 it starts to distinguish itself from foam, then foam catches up again at about 1-2k.

  • Ats Acoustics kicks ass

  • Thanks, lots of good info. Great job

  • Best video on the web for soundproofing no doubt

  • Soundproofing'' just put up egg cups like in hustle & flow

  • what do you think about the AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone

  • Thank you so much.

  • 100th rate yaaay!!! you rock

  • I think I'm in love.

  • YOU ROCK! thanks for the help.

  • Thanks

  • Hi awsome video i was just wondering what that foam piece is on top of the se reflection filter? lol my girlfreind has moved in so i had to give up my closet space got the se relection filter :-)

  • Shee is the bomb. I am really glad that I found this video.

  • Excellent! On point info. You make it plain from start to finish. Great job. Love to see more from you & hear some of your recordings. Thanks

  • Yeah, very informative, articulate and classy. Keep doin ur thing and post up a link to a page where we can sample some of ur recordings to hear the "difference". I'm confident it'll be a success! Okay Ma, Peace.

  • SG's Vocal Reflextion Filter - Best $299 I've ever spent!

  • did anyone ask how much the sp blanket was already, if not, how much is it?

  • goto the center of the room your planning to record in and clap. if tou hear any ringing (resonance) then you have to treat the room. make sure theres carpet and no windows in the room.

  • at 9:00, what are the panels called? because ats acoustic panels are not that. i want those panels with the rough texture.

  • I Love Sweetwater, com, they sent me candy with my Sumson USB Mic lol.

  • this depends on the song instrumentation you may be able to supplement Ur natural bass by creating space for instrumentation.) these are the numbers they may change slightly depending upon the track but they are fairly consistent. I hope this helps someone. Before the finances came into play i did quite some creative things myself! LOL some worked many didn't. but those that did I embraced. i have a myspace with some of the songs that I previously recorded as well as some of the newer ones..

  • also try this cut you vocals @ 4khz to -2.3db this creates the smooth velvet effect(adjust your Q), then increase your 5khz to 1.6db, (the clarity point you r should focus on), next to polish them @8khz increase you Que to 1.3db (careful), next to create the space for you vocals to sound lush you decrease @ 250hz to -1.2db, to reduce the natural rumble of vocals that are generated by the virbration of the lungs to cut between 350-500 hz ( you may want to dercease you bass in the 60-63 hz range

  • OMG!!1 You just helped me save a few grand on putting up a sound booth in my basement. Now I'll have more space in my basement.

  • can u use mcdonalds cupholders to soundproofa wall?

  • try using thick bed comforters, they work wonders and wont run up a big bill, you'l definately notice the difference.

  • try it.

  • you can goto walmart and get sum mattress foam. works exellent along with reverb software.

  • i tried looking for it online, all i got was fake tempurpedic matress covers, plz hlp

  • Where can u purchase the audimute blanket?

  • Great Job! Very informative.

  • I really really appreciate this video, but if I could be so bold, your audio on this video is spiking or distorting or something - I would look at your levels. It's difficult to listen to this because of the sound, actually. Also, I might invest in a pop filter (or make one out of panty hose! Feel free to make a vid about it!) Like I said, no offense, you're beautiful & great, but audio needs work.

  • real informative ...good job

  • so the expander is good huh? been looking at that for a while thanks for the recommendation

  • Expanders are okay. I mean they don't work in the environment I am in I actually just sold them and invested into the SE Reflection Filter which is great.

  • Wow! Thnx ^^kiss

  • awesome - good work!

i think (i know!) some people can get a little too techie (or chest beat-y) on studio topics, so it's really good of you to share your knowledge & ingenuity in a concise & practical way.

    :)) good on ya chic!!

    voice123(dot)com/sinimanner

  • I've been looking for soundproofing solutions all night and yours was the most concise and helpful....Thanks!

  • your are the truth

  • Curiouz to kno if u think the AT2020, iz a better mic than the MXL 990?

  • i used the mxl 990 for quite a while and i think that most mxl mics are great for beginners on a budget. theyre produce clean sound in a room that is at least somewhat acoustically treated, and they are extremely affordable.

  • you make my studio look like nothing

  • nice vids !!! great info over here.. and nice studio setup..!! I wish i had that luck hehe :D

  • Thank you for putting up this tutorial. Luckily, I already have a AT2020 and yes that IS a good mic! Would you recommend singing in a closed walk-in closet?

  • wow a girl just like me...lol....cool i'll be constructing my home studio in the next few months...check out my vids in the next few weeks

  • hi, this is a really good video, congrats, it has given me alot of options in terms of soundproofing! All the best to you!

  • What is the name of that soundproof blanket you were using? thanks so much for your video. I love your studio setup, hopefully mines will be there one day!

  • Glad you found it useful, thanks.

  • @SHEEmusic Do you have a man? I have job, I'm from The Bronx and I have my own place. Get@me

  • That was very helpful thank you. I've just purchased a NT1A Rode mic and a mic Insulator much like the one you show at 7:43. Hopefully i won't need to sound proof the whole room, the mic was $520 and the insulator around $300, do you think it'll serve me well?? i'm a vocalist looking at putting together my own home studio. i'll have my own room soon in which to set it up. Any other tips before i start setting everything up?? i've heard you shouldn't set it up near any windows, is that true?

  • The NT1A is a reputable mic and combined with the insulator...you should be fine. You should avoid noise sources like windows whenever possible.

  • Cool, thanks heaps for your time :-)

  • SheerBadness is da bomb

  • i 'll deinitely watch more

  • hey thnx girl.. ive actually got $200 dollar budget and will use ur tips

  • You did a great job putting this video together Shee. Your vids on the usb mics were very helpful as well. Most videos on this topic don't cover several different options.

  • GREAT ADVICE!!!

  • appreciate u taking the time to explain all this. i wanted to ask what u think is best between the soundproff blankets or the reflection shield, i record in the living room so if i build the booth will tt take up a lot of space and will i be able to take it down easy everyday. or should i just get the reflection filter
