@0poop0 Man, that is deeply philosophical shit. If you were any more convincing, I think my skull cap would just explode out the fuckin top. I bet you even tried the drill before forming your expert opinion.
@infinitytru only if you train your techniques to the point that your instinct becomes to do proper technique rather than sloppy technique. bad instincts against a trained fighter = a whole lot of pain
@destroyallnerds As long as you train for that muscle memory, your instinct will not fail. Rarely will someone fight and not use any instinct, It's just reaction to what is given to you.
Sorry to nitpik but that second move was actually 12 moves. ;)
I did a version of this with a training partner once while at work. We were rolling in our heads and just kept on working while we called out our moves.
Very good idea. I first saw this on the Gracie video with Royce and Rorion. I can definitely see how it would help attack and defend as well as learn different routes to one submission. Keep up the good work guys! I subscribed and i've already checked 6-7 videos so far.
nice...one question. how far do you go as "one move" goes? to keep the chess match/reversals going? since one guy can just go completely to a dominant position or go straight for a submission hold in one move...
We make our videos about 2 minutes long because a lot of instructionals go on forever! We get the information out, tell the details needed and allow people to replay them over and over. It is tough watching a video that is 9 minutes long on one technique. Besides, who wants to here us ramble on for another few minutes ;-)
Cool! We do that with Aikido locks, symoultnaious blocking/striking as well, and it really increased the level of training. I never tried it with grappling because I didn't think "a move" would be easy enough to define. But... looks like it is! We'll give 'er a go! Thanks Ari!
Same here, and have to admit that currently I'm much better at chess than grappling (master at 2283 in chess and 4th degree white belt). Working on it though :]
Great way of finding your weaknesses. Nice vid ;)

I suggest you do this with a standing game as well
SenseiStrange 2 years ago
Grip fighting is better for standing because you need to engage your hips for a throw its a different dynamic then on the ground.

when ppl fight they dont think as much, the adrenaline clouds their mind and they act on instinct, that's how they lose.

Not nearly enough people roll light and do this type of thing. Gotta learn to crawl before you can walk. Good vid.
