  • the rattler will get the tx giant treatment...without the steel track as first planned..the new plans dropps the first drop back down to where it was the second hill will be higher and a 90 degree pulling 2 Gs at 70mph the helix will be redone no brake at top of wall so going thru the tunnel at 70mph new trains new LIM brake system and a pulley lift no more chain

  • It wasn't he first drop, it was the second drop to the end of the helix that was bad.... The shouldn't have reprofiled it.....

  • i wonder if they are really going to remodel the drop back to it's original drop,it would be nice and something new to look foward to other than skyscreamer.

  • sixflags fiesta tx needs to step der game up like for real..because we are getting wack rides ..also one of the park mechanics told me that they are going to extend the rattler meaning making it a longer ride..sounds good to me because sixflags rides needs some spark.

  • Shame what Six Flags has done to it...a classic monster and as a fan of wooden coasters, (we need to be thrown around sometimes) it saddens me. But this is also the weirdest coaster ever. Overall looked sick but that is the most awkward looking helix ever. No to mention how slow it takes it, also what is with all those awkward shifts in the track???

What a bizarre ride we were blessed with lol

  • I rode the Rattler right after it opened. it had the most thrilling first drop on the planet!

  • TURN LEFT! OH GOD MY OCD FFS TURN LEFT!!!

  • A 900 degree helix that took 50 fucking seconds to travel through. Why the fuck is that there?

  • What was the original top speed?

  • @coasterking1991 73 Mph

  • I rode this for the first time last week, and it was really fun. But now seeing this, I would have to say it would be veeeerrry interesting to ride back at opening.

  • helix big enough?

  • They should give it Texas Giant Treatment

  • @snakefaceproductionz This ride has actually been officially announced as the next coaster to get topper track. it was said at a Q/A session

  • I've got an idea...Maybe they should build another original 'Rattler' for us in need and keep the old one for the faint of heart. What do ya think?

  • A) This looks like it was made in No Limits by someone with Parkinson's disease.

    B) That helix has to be THE most pointless, ridiculous, and boring element I've ever seen on a coaster. And I live right next to CGA's Grizzly.

  • The actually let people ride that! On top of looking like it should be condemned the layout looks pointless as hell. The ride looks extremely rough and boring tear it down!!!

  • Jesus. That helix looks boring as balls even with the far higher drop.

  • epic!

  • ive only been here once (in 2005 i think. the ride was sooo rough but the drop was so amazing,

  • I honestly miss jokers revenge way more than the original profile of this ride

  • I rode the ride before and after the re-profile and I can tell the roughest part of the ride is "coil". The drops then and now are much smoother than people made them out to be. However, the "snake coil" section of the ride just beats the crap out of you if you are past about the 5th row. That's the part that should be re-done.

  • wow that drop looks insane

  • Hey whats the info on it know like the height n all that??

  • @218EastSideJerks218 This rides rises to a total height of 179 Ft. when it opened in 1992, it had a 166 ft first drop and reached top speeds of 73 mph

  • don't woory too much everyone. i heard that theres been some talk at Fiesta Texas of reverting the drop to its original splendor, putting down brand new (smoother) track, and taking out the trim brakes at the helix.

  • @cannibalonXthedead Yeah, we're entitled to dream big every now & then. For Six Flags to give THAT kind of attention to a wooden coaster, even reverting it back into a condition which caused numerous lawsuits, would be a miracle on our part, and suicide on Six Flags part. That said, the Rattler in it's original configuration was one of the top 5 or 10 best wood coaster then operating, with arguably the most intense single drop of any woodie in modern times.

  • @jesusisbetter yeah six flags really screwed this ride in 1996. they had way to many damn parks back then

  • @jesusisbetter And i think all the lawsuits were a result of the Morgan trains and RCCA construction. Son of beast @ kings island, the other notable RCCA ride has tons of stuctural failures and is rough as all hell, but werner stengles design was perfect.but the park wanted tp save money on wood and decided not to listen to him. well the SOB rant is for another ay...

  • got on this ride opening weekend when fiesta texas first opened, it was the bomb, now it sux

  • Was the part from :27 to 1:19 always part of the original track? I seem to remember them changing it soon after it opened.

  • this is fiesta texas right? cuz the rattler used to be all badass there and they did do a whole shitload of shit to it due to safety issues... kinda like the jokers revenge that used to be there right?

  • ugh the thing to covers you is so danger

  • I just watched a newer pov of that and wow its so different! I wish they didnt change it or I could've ridden it.

  • John pierce the man who design this coAster is working on the new prints for rattler. A steeper drop down to the gully no brake on the 3rd drop b4 the tunnel a wider 2nd hill and a few more suprizes.and bring speed from 65mph to 74mph.

  • The origional rattler is coming back. But without the jerks bigger better faster. Also there's news jokers revenge is coming back.

  • even though it was only 170 feet, this coaster ALMOST looked like a hyper-wooden roller coaster XD

  • wow that 1st drop looks STEEP!! wat year did they remodel it? and LOVE the AC/DC song in the background, btw :-)

  • That Ride Was so much fun!!! i loved it the first time i rode it! then i had to go and ride it a second time. but whats the diffrence now?

  • it actually looks graceful

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god this and the Texas Giant are the best wooden rids in the U.S.A,

and here we go People being little pussys and just go crying. "I got hurt" Bitch no one care's go home and dont came back its not like six flags is going to care or geive a fuck.;.... sooo "six flags you need to stop re-doing rids that are GOOD" and do the bad ones. Its like that son of beast... god that loop was fine and u pussy...... just get over shit,,,,,, You killed Astroworld And to thick six flags was coolll....

  • @mattthwhill > I liked Son of Beast, but you are mistaken. The loop caused SOB's downfall...well that, and poor engineering. The loop required that the trains be heavier, which in fact caused major damage/wear and tear to the track. If King's Island would have not cut corners with the engineering of SOB, it would still be running today.

  • Quick question,I just moved to San Antonio about 3 years ago, what's different on the Rattler now that they changed...I keep hearing about the 1st drop...I still find it pretty cool...but what was different about it?

  • @TheMadness323

The first drop went much, much deeper than it does now. I seem to remember it being maybe twenty feet or so from the bottom of the cliff before heading up the second hill. It also had a much steeper angle of a drop with a little mini-drop after the train was released from the chains. I think they altered the second drop as well. The other major change is that there definitely wasn't a brake put in place before the third big drop into the tunnel.

  • I don't know why they had to raise the drop...They had fucking health/safety warning signs posted all over the bitch. And they were very simple to understand, 'don't ride if you can't handle it'. But you still had dumbasses who apperantly couldn't read still riding it. "wah, wah, I hurt my neck, its too rough!" Get the fuck out of here. Hey but nice choice of song to go along with POV.

  • The 90s era rattler is coming back without pain when the crew is done with tx giant they will start working on restoring rattler john pierce will be on hand for the redesign

  • The only parts they didn't butcher. The lower helix the lift they took the brake run off the crown the flyby not touchd but the rest got 5 years of butchering.they redid all the brake runs and took 50ft of bad track and replaced it

  • So sad to see the Texas coaster massacre after this :(

  • As an additional comment...I compared this vid w/a more recent vid of the coaster and boy they sure DID butcher this baby! I didn't realize how much til I compared the two. What WERE they thinking?! Now it just seems like a plain, lame-o coaster similar to what you'd find anywhere...there's no uniqueness abt it anymore. I never got to experience this in it's original form so it's nice to see it as it used to be.

  • @coasterkat people kept complaining about whiplash on it because the coaster got to much power on the first drop

  • @coasterkat the reason they butchered it was because peoples necks broke/ got hurt. my stepmom rode itin 1992 and she stayed in the nurse for the day. oh how lucky that bitch was...

  • ride looks horrible! the track looks like a porch ralling and i know its different now but then wow!

  • It looks so much better than the re-profiled version

  • Nice transition at 1:38!

  • I'm a huge coaster buff, and love wooden coasters, but this ride hurt. I'm all about a fun rough ride, but this was a bit ridiculous. The entire way down the second hill and up the third I remember bouncing back and forth and up and down simultaneously it was so rough. And that helix sucked. It looked so cool, but they brake the crap out of it, and the mini hills are just brutal! It should have been one descending triple helix and picked up speed as it went, would have been awesome and smooth!

  • Awesome video thanx for posting. One thing though, I do know that the designers purposefully made the track in the spiral 'rattle' back & forth to simulate a rattlesnakes rattle so that's why it's so unbelievably jerky in that one part. Stupid I think though coz the first time I rode it, that part scared the pants off me! Thought it was gonna buck right off the track.

  • those transitions are terrible. beautiful concept though.

  • Well they sure are terrible in the way of roughness but I think they look really cool and unique. I love how they made sure the track's shaping was never generic. I dunno, I just like looking at them.

  • I hate the ending brakes, OW!

  • thats a pretty steep drop?

  • ocd people could not ride this lol, look at that big right helix

  • haha! I suffer from it, I get quite bad attacks from time to time and I was thinking watching that, Crap crap crap! turn left, turn left God damnit!!! lol

I had to scratch my left arm a load to make myself feel ok again lol, stupid bloody ride.

  • This really is depressing, I've always seen pictures of this coaster and it looked so amazing. This video shows me how fucking SLOW it goes.

  • 0:30 to 1:17 is that SERIOUSLY one big right turn? wow... -.-...

  • They could've kept the big drop if they would have gotten seats with the sholder trestraints instead. It would have prevented people from hurting their necks & they could have a really big drop & lots of fun!

  • but wooden coasters arnet meant to have shoulder restraints thats what steel coasters are for

  • Just cause they originally weren't meant to be for wooden coasters, they still could have done it, I mean they can't be the really heavy ones but there are ones that are lighter than some others.

  • what im saying it will take the fun of riding a wooden coaster cuz ur supposed to be going crazy in the seats not held down by shoulder restraints

  • Well i know but i think it would be worth it to have the big drop!

  • Rattler and AC/DC What could be better imo :-)

  • ...Rattler and Led Zeppelin.

  • @AwesomeCoasters

One of the best replys that I have read on YT. Zeppelin fans unite and take over.

  • From 0:30-1:17 its just a lot of helixes, as far as I can see....

  • people who say this ride looks or say it hurts are pussys. rides badass and its short but looks fun.!

  • why did they make the drop shorter

  • lot of people were hurting their backs and necks, they had to it was a ruff drop. alot better than it is now though

  • yea sure people blow their asses and backs alot less now but the appeal... no, the POINT of riding this beast is now completely lost! That 1st drop was AMAZING!

  • they should change it back to the way it was

  • yes!! they should!!!

that was a crazy ass drop!!!

  • if u notice they have changed lots of rides like rattle and like 2 other

  • yea well it realy sucked that they would murder the ride like that,it still a great ride but its seen its better days! :'(

  • triple helix huge let down rails lokk like they are ancient and looks unenjoyable even with out the heavy profile

  • Looks like some 12 year old built this with Roller Coaster Tycoon...And people say Mean Streak is bad...

  • Mean streak is a great ride

  • lol this does look exactly like something i beat in RCT back in the day

btw mean streak is awesome (it hurts like hell though)

they need to put those new trains on it so its smoother

  • dude the triple helix made this ride lok so slow but it doesnt lok like it was eva numba one

  • Wow. Six Flags totally murdered this ride with the re-profile.

  • Shame people today are pussies, it really bugs me. Sure, this one was much rougher than most....isnt that what makes it?? Sad how they murdered this ride.

  • Wow you can really tell the diffrence

  • Wow...did someone actually take the time to design it or did they just do the impulsive thing and build it, hoping it would work?

    Still...looks fun as hell... ;-)

  • i think you where right about the later point

  • Designed by John Pierce. Truly a madman!

    I love it

  • this ride is freaking awesome!!! everyone ride it!!! whoooo it's soooo fun!!!! but it really hurts...and i think someone has fallen off it before =( but if you go fiesta texas in san antonio i recemond (srry if i spelled it wrong) this ride it's very fun...peace

  • That first drop was awesome! But seriously, a triple helix? That part was a let down.

  • It should be killer! But even in this vid it is soooo slow

  • i absolutely HATED this ride when i was younger, although the first drop was sweet and almost kinda wierd. But i remeber having to go to a chiropracter( sorry forgot how to spell it) every saturday? i dont know the day but anyway it was just horrible. Im glad they fixed it :)

  • i rode this at 12 and the ride pulled my head outside of the carts. almost hit my head =(

  • this ride is probably the most dangerous ride ever. too jerky, gets boring, and i swear the lap restraints literally go slowly up as the ride gets closer to the end. i almost fell off.

  • After the first drop, even then, it just peters out. Triple helix with no speed into a tunnel drop, into a couple of elevated turns. The first of the one trick ponies.

Not that Mean Streak is any better.

  • OMFG the bottom of the first drop and the turnaround were SO rough!! When re-profiling, they should've just smoothed the track out a bit, still keeping the insanity of the first drop, which seems very graceful in the vid. The dive is so twisted, steep and claustrophobic! Exactly how I like mine :D. Now the first drop is just so pedestrian and boring..

  • i liked the first drop back then

  • Yeah that drop was SICK...

  • wtf? this coaster is really the unsmoothest and wrong banked coaster i eeeeeever saw! :O

  • I won't get it on it now, and I definitely wouldn't have gotten on it back then! lol

I think my mom kinda injured herself on this ride back then though. Hmpf... oh well... =(

  • they need to put a dive coaster in that park

  • i love the rattler its my all time fav.especialy if your on the last ride of the night they leave the people up on the first drop so that they are able to see the fireworks, i road on the rattle before they changed it and i was only 11 or so and oh man was it fun and im 28 now and i ve been going every year since then,WOW! THATS ALL I GOTTA SAY!

  • didnt it beat the shit outta you when you were 11? cuz i rode it when i was young and still remember that thing smashing me around. HATED the first drops rib-braking turn.

  • That was awsome! love the AC/DC song w/it too. I don't know which part you're referring to that's "not lined up correctly" but I know that in the helix part, they purposely made the track "rattle" back & forth to simulate a snake's rattle vibrating. I'm glad you posted this, I never got to experience the original drop. Can't believe they wimped out & changed it. What a jip! I've never experienced any back troubles riding it but did find it sorta boring that I just don't care to ride it now.

  • lol i rode it and i died kek

  • wow that was an impressive first drop

    could almost feel it

  • I rode that cause my dad made me and um 11 and VERY SHORT !!! nearly fell off

  • that ride is a bitch!!

  • I would've hated to ride it before they reduced it. The other day I rode it in the rain and I swore I was gonna die. My back got hurt really bad.

  • Yeah, even now the Rattler is responsible for a lot of neck and back pain. Not on the plunge, but mostly when whipping around the curves. Coasters should be scary but not painful.

  • i never had a problem with jerking when i rode but this ride is super scary but really fun

  • cool

  • I rode this before I was a teenager not knowing how crazy it was. The drop felt vertical back then.

  • fiesta texas in san antonio

  • Dude, that ride looked so fun at first but then it just kept doing right helixes for half of the ride. Where is this ride at?

  • lol I almost got nauseous just watching that part.

  • i was so bored on this ride

i was like "could you hand me a magazine?"

  • the only thrill ride i get bored on is poltergeist and frisbee

  • someone threw up on the Frisbee when I was there last week so i decided not to ride it.

    lol.

  • Rattler is a great ride even though its jerky

  • Have all of these critics actually ridden the Rattler or are they making remarks based on the videos?

There are many complaints about the slow triple helix at the top of the rock wall, and while that's not my favorite part of the ride either, what other coaster (wood or steel) boasts an actual blackout into a real cave. Most new coasters constructed these days don't have such a unique feature as this, andone who rides will find that the blackout is well worth the helixes that precede it.

  • Watch your lap bar during the ride. During the ride your lap bar slowly undo's it's self from the bumpiness of the ride. Someone almost flew out of the coaster because of that.

  • Me too but I still love that ride!

  • lol same here... im one of those guys who likes to keep his hands up the entire ride, except when it seems if i leave it up when im going under supports it might get hit

  • They have changed the coaster 3 times. First when it was just the first drop, then turned around and when over to the station and looped around twice. Then they rebuilt it to this video's, which looks like the best version, then they ruined it by straighten around shrinking the first drop and getting rid of the dip in the second drop. And now they are renforcing the turns to stop the extreme swaying which reduces the fear factor. Also that makes the turn much rougher. The coaster is sucky now.

  • well back when the first drop was the biggest first drop on a wooden, there were lots of injuries, so they had no choice but to reduce it.

  • Wow. . .

Probably fun when it first opened, but i can't imagine this layout after like the 5th year of being open. It would be brutal. I'd take it though :-)

  • were is this footage from

  • Health and safety inspection spring to mind

  • Wow.

I knew this ride used to be gnarly, but I had no idea. The first drop is so steep, and it levels out at such a sharp angle. I can't belive this ride made it past testing in its origonal form.

  • That looks boring as heck, and rough, and slow, that first drop looks steep and fun though.

  • Rattler is so tall as the biggest woodie at Kings Island but the wicked twisted spirals do make the ride get really slow and it really sounded like I was riding on some kind of Big Thunder Mountain at Disney theme park. =(

  • Yeah well the rattler is at six flags fiesta texas! not Kings Island

  • What a piece of sh--. No wonder it always rate low on Mitches coaster poll.

  • It looks way better than Son of Beast in any case...but what doesn't, really?

  • The rasing of the first drop was a HORRIBLE decision. And they NEED to demolish that triple helix out and replace it with some steady hills or a solid helix series....oh yeah the re profileig of the second drop was a bad one too!!!!

  • wow

  • I rode this coaster when it was still like this...It was extreamly rough...It gave me a headache and and it gave me whiplash...It was a fun ride though

  • Wow. I wish I had been able to ride before they "fixed it" and made it more docile, this looks insane.

  • This is one sick looking coaster. I have heard of it before and saw a far shot from it, but that is about it. This was the first POV I saw of it prior to its hacking. I seen many wood coasters before, but I never seen one built like this before. First time I seen cross bracing between the rails. Looks like it is built like tank, that is for sure.

  • what was wit all the zig-zag boards between the rails? For support?

  • that spiral was boring everything else seemed cool

  • that was before they edited it

on the first drop they brought the bottom of the drop up so now it doesn't go as fast

    but its still fun

  • Why didnt they just add trims?
