Traffic is my all time favorite band since my early high school years, and this song has always been one of my favorites. There is just something about it that is so uplifting. Music and voice are perfect. Love the flute. Great video to go with the it.
Words that have meaning to many in anytime then now and in the future for all time. Compare to music now... the words really don't mean shit and talk of meaningless things that will have no bearing as time continues on.
qué canción más bonita! espero escuchar ésta y otras de Traffic el próximo 2 de junio en Berlin, Steve winwood junto a Eric Clapton, ojalá el setlist elegido se asemeje al del conciertoen Madison square garden
thank you trichoone for this treat. means alot to me to get to experience again. traffic had flowed through my life like the wave under my surfboard, like the sustain from my guitar. they've been a great inspiration unto the connection with mother nature
You've created visual poetry here. Sincerely, very hauntingly beautiful match with the music. Though the last image with the woman seems out of place.
Stevie played this early on at the 2/28/08 Madison Square Garden concert II was there) - and it was AWESOME. I understand that the DVD / CD will be released soon - can't wait. I've loved Winwood since SDG. BTW, Clapton was good at the MSG show, too.
If anyone has the old steve winwood solo version of this that would be great to get a link to. I have looked my self but that new group stole the name no face no name no number and it's all you can find in the search places I found this by mistake. so if you have the solo steve winwood version drop me a line please with a link ETC I would be most grateful thanks
I used to play this song on the juke box in the Six Bells pub in Kings Road, Chelsea back in the 60's. Haven't heard it for many years. Great memories and a great track. Thanks for posting.
I love this song. I grew up in London and I was a big Steve Winwood fan. I bought Mr. Fantasy when it was released in 1967(??). My family moved to the States in 1970 and I was very surprised that the American album version of Mr. Fantasy had a different cover and different songs on it: No utterly simple or Hope I Never Find Me There. But it did have Smiling Phases.
God what a beautiful and haunting song. Chris Wood, flute, S. W. organ, mellotron, harpsichord, bass, vocal, Dave Mason or S.W. on acoustic gtr, Capaldi percussion...
i was in the madison square garden on 25th Feb. 08 and saw Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton - what more shall i say? I never heard this song before - brought me to tears on this evening - touched me deep inside
yes, quite lovely and thank you ! as ohters here say, loved this song since i was fifteen; bought the 1st single and album when they came out, and treasured them.
Brilliant mixture of vivid colour and atmospheric shadows. I believe this is the best combination of moving images and a haunting song that I have seen for a long time.
Fantastic footage.I could try and do my own video for this sometime but couldn't surpass your footage. This is an atmospheric song, have tried to like it but for some reason it fails to hook me.Thanks anyway.
it s for sure one of my very best song of traffic ...maybe my fave...it s very honnest nearly fragile...it s full of soul...psychedelic and natural , not overproduced as lot of modern stuff...how to not fell in love with a song like that...but this song is quite "unique" in the Traffic discography...
My fave Traffic album still Mr Fantasy (67) and The Low Spark of high-heeled boys (71)
I've loved this song for forty years and a month, since I first heard it. Winwood is as warm and impressive as ever, but I don't think he sings this any more - a shame.
Thanks for your comment yeh a great track this i like it too and its nice when comments come in giving me another reason to hear it again -trichoone .
That is correct. At the Roundhouse (London) in memory of J.C. after his untimely death. There is a YT vid. now. Though it is Winwood singing lead on this version.
This song is t(e)rrafic.
