How do you get the baits far enough out? I'm thinking of using a remote controlled RC boat to set my lines but that's expensive and the saltwater will tear it up.
@johndtuttle Which is why LBG Marlin is not commonly practiced, high mortality rates. 99% of billfish caught in Australia are tagged and released, developing Australia's Gamefish tagging program into the largest and most successful tagging program in the world.
Australia's recreational fisherman have become possibly some of the world's largest supporter's of sustainable fishing. You see one fish killed and cry about it, but you don't see the hundreds more that go back healthy. It's a fact mate
I know a chap who tried Cape Brett two weeks ago. Berleyed for two days and no joy. BUT...I'm sure it is possible to catch a marlin off the bricks in NZ...only trouble is it's going to be a black...400lb+ but the 1400m of string sounds promising. You're quite serious aren't you? A little bird told me he knows a farmer who watched a massive black ripping into kahawai 30 meteres off shore in a remote spot on the Coromandel in January. I am tempted to believe it. The Marlin are doing strange thing

@Recabnomis hope to join you this season as have a hot spot to try in NZ this season ,,geared up 80w 37kg 1400meters of string comeing to add a bit of Au style to this adventure,,
@Recabnomis When I get the phone call?LOL Was thinking around feb but am doing a three week mission to NZ in march for some LB popping for some XOS hoods,,
@BlueFinProductions did you end up coming over? i tried cape brett to, well deep water cove area lots of bait around but nothing close to rocks even though water temps and blue water high and up reall close
rough terrain over here :( maybe far north would be a go, west nz has been going OFF!!! for stripies
Hi Sharkfisho, There is two released marlin in the DVD Billrage,this is world first footage. as a group we are lucky to see a hand full of marlin each season and some years pass without a marlin being hooked at all, most LBG anglers spend a lifetime to tangle with a marlin off th stones so to release one is a massive call.

@jordythebassist
Doesn't make it right if you have any long term interest in the fishery.

Very Nice,but why keep those small male black marlin?
If catching them from shore is rare enough as it is, why kill the few you do catch?
Respect the fish man.
