I love electric cars etc and have my own 500mpg electric bicycle I made. But they never mention how long batteries last if they are lead acid like these ones will be. I keep seeing these at 4000 miles for sale with knackered batteries that are around £2k to replace minimum. So that nice low £400 quid electricity bill over 4000 miles just turned into £2400. After testing lifepo4 myself It seems short life cell replacements is now over and am waiting for the prices to fall of lithium :)
i would advice any of these cars as a second car, not the MAIN one, if u use it 4 shopping and short trips (we all do it) then it comes into it's own. remember no road tax, and dirt cheap insurance, so why not? btw u can pick a good second hand reva g-whiz 4 £2000!
@badman1220 Finally somebody who gets it, and in London City it is ideal as you cant get around with a big car anyway! I am just waiting until they make a better super mini, which is safer and has a range of 200-250 mies, which is as good quality as the nissan leaf. Then there is no reason not to buy an electric car as it has loads of advantages!
@alnsman I agree, but most bitter-faced people, environmentailistic people know that the inconvenient truth and would hate you for saying it. They never like the truth, just think about themselves in their own fantasy world
How about doing away with all that plastic cheese and convert an EXISTING car? A classic British Morris 1000 or Austin would be a start, easy to disassemble cheep parts etc
I dont think electric is the way to go, I would personally convert a car to run on natural gas or lpg. If you converted a car to electric and it broke down then its going to want fixing and that is going to be a problem. Most garages probably wouldn't have the spacial tools or know how to work on one. I drive a Morris Minor and it will do 40mpg easily, if it were running on lpg then that would be equal to 80mpg which is more than 99.9% or vehicles.
Oh I couldn't cut odd shapes out of the body or anything. Just a reversible conversion in the spacey engine bay. My thinking is stopping wear and tear short trips make on a vintage engine. But I'd miss my Morris' exhaust sound ;)
haha, you cant beat the exahust note on a minor :D
I would have thought that the minor is pretty environmentally friendly anyway, the fact that it is cheap and simple to maintain and it can outlive most modern cars 5 times over. All the environmentalists care about is fuel but there is much more to it then that.
Spot on mate! Home-made, very little rubber, very little plastic, just steel and sometimes wood. Draws more looks than my neighbour's Porsche tee hee!
Many Happy Returns! I cleaned my windows today :) the chrome I would miss on a G-Wizz (keeping on-subject). What people don't realize is that Morris 1000s are modern cars with good handling, fair brakes and engine performance; the 1098cc keeps up with modern traffic. Happy driving!
I would like to agree totally with you but mine can only do 60mph (which is still 20mph faster than a wiz :P) But who cares about that when you can have the roof down and you can potter down some country lanes with all the time in the world :)
'Still faster than the G-Wiz', that would be a funny bumper sticker. Cars that can only accelerate gently is the way forward for safer drivers who are more relaxed about getting from A to B. Let the rat race zoom off in their Mondaeos I say!
The advantage of plug-in electric is an available "fuel" distribution network, especially if most recharging occurs at night, when the grid has surplus capacity. Natural gas, assuming you pump your own as Honda proposes with the GX, is a limited and perhaps under-supply in winter. As far as repairs, call an electrician. :-) It will likely be a replacement module in any case.
It will cost more to maintain then the average car and will not live for very long so they are useless, they dont do much for the environment at all. Plus if they are only made for short trips then why not just buy a bike?
That's an argument people have been making for the last decade or two which doesn't hold much water unfortunately. How you charge an EV is rather important. If you charge it via the mains when your electricity is oil powered, then no, it doesn't do much for the environment. But, if you charge it with solar/wind power, then the power generated is quite harmless and the vehicles Co2 levels drop to nil/zip/nada/squat/jack/sweet FA.
G-WIZ HAS CHARACTER? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, what a joke. It's absolutely awful in all regards, especially the styling. It's obviously a very low budget effort. The flat edges, square lines, round lights and out of proportion shape look like a very bad Japanese micro-car from the mid-80's, and you can just tell by looking at it that it's not designed with any form of safety in mind.
And they've got the cheek to charge £8000 for this piece of crap.
look if you cant afford the congestion charge move out of London, and take ur electric cars with you. by a HUMMER or a 7 Series its safe and people WILL move out ur way. 10grand 4 the blue 1 ur havin a laff, 8 grand for the black 1. if you dont like sitting in traffic......bye a helicopter. i really don't like this GREEEN load rubbish. i go on the fact IT WILL BE ALL RITE NO NEED 2 WORRY......
Nothing is carbon neutral, and there is a LOT more to global climate change than artificially created particulates and gases in the atmosphere. Vehicles like this put environmental friendliness (a fallacy) in front of safety, which is pathetic and endangers lives. Safety should always be the first concern on the roads.
How much safer would the world be if all cars on the road where like this? You are using the same argument that is used against cycling, in fact as % journeys by bike goes up total serious injuries go down.
Not only are you more likely to die in a collision with another vehicle if you are piloting a G Wiz, but you are also more likely to die if you hit a stationary object. You are also not taking into account that cars such as this are powered by sealed lead acid batteries. As a result of this, in terms of making the car, the G Wiz is about as "green" as a Range Rover.
In London there are a helluva lot of stationary objects to hit. Parked cars, buses at bus stops, tree's, lamposts, fixed bollards and so forth. The G Wiz is a nice idea but fatally flawed.
I think you are right about the safety issues but the car it is city car and quite a slow one at that. It isnt very likely that these cars are going to be involved the sort of crashes that kill, namely, those at high speed. Also, of those accidents which do occur, a fair number involve pedestrians, and pedestrians would be better off being hit by one of these.
Unless G-Wiz owners can revive their batteries, imho their owners will be abandoning them, like Canadians did to their EV's, due to battery replacement costs. Check out "revived battery" vehicles.
Mmmmm.....maybe but you know what politco's are like, anything they can use to dip into our pockets and rip us off they'll use....after all they've got their big fat pay checks and pensions to pay for.

Basically you would be better off buying a 50 year old Land Rover and running it on cooking oil.
samandlauz 3 years ago
The G-Wiz is shite, who ever says its "environmentally friendly" has got it completely wrong. I will tell you why...
1) Its new, you have bought a new car, thats a downside already
2) It will not last very long because its crap, so you will have to buy another one in 4-5 years time.
3) Battery acid is not very nice and you cant easily dispose of it cleanly
4) You still need to charge it up off of the mains which gets its energy from big coal generators
5) It is not safe for your loved ones.

Hmmm, apparently the G-Wiz turns you into hamburger if you crash it. Still, at least EV drivers might be less arrogant than petrolheads.
I think these EVs are a bit of a ripoff value-wise- if they were £1,000 I'd chance my arm, but 7-10 grand? Sod off.
