You are probably referring to George Delmonte. He was a soprano soloist in the early 60's, left for a few years, then returned in the mid-70's. He used to play the solo in 'Echano' when in the competing corps. George is retired and living in Florida the last I heard.
It is great to still be able to hear the traditional sound of a Drumline. Thanks You Cabs. Yes, the Corps of today are talented but the quality of sound has been compromised. The snares sound like someone playing on potato chip cans and I totally turned off by it. I no longer attend contests because of it. The modern DCI shows of today could care less about pleasing the crowd and are simply self engrosed .They are good at what they do, but I do not like what they do.
wow! very cool... a glimps of where drum corps came from.... mylar heads, 15" snares, slings.... great.... and piss clean.... and not playing short guz rolls and paradiddle diddle after paradiddle diddle like the tom hannum rehashed parts EVERY corps plays now.
You're not seeing things. We use vintage 12" x 15" Ludwig metal snare drums with legs rests and slings/straps. It fits the authentic look and sound of the era we are trying to emulate with our corps. Carriers just don't fit in with our philosophy.
@EarDoc40 You are probably referring to George Delmonte, soprano soloist in the early 60's and again in the mid to late 70's. George is retired and livnig in Florida the last I heard.
Thanks so much fo posting! We use to be in drum corps in the early 60"s.

@cabalumnidrummer Do you know what ever became of George (last name unknown) who was the great soloist in the mid to late 70's. He was awsome. Thanks

Amazing, some of the DCI/DCA stuff i hear as technical as it is just sounds like noise, this has both technicality and it's musical :)

These dudes still bring it hard after almost 40 years! Love the bongo/timbales! So much more musical and entertaining than today's DCI!
