HBSTC you don't know what you talking about to the Poster good times practice your driving skills steady throttle low range and hold into it a little so your front traction system works...Hollister "steps" are actually NOT a simple drive and you'll see locked up Big block jeeps smoking tires getting up that same setup...Good job good vid Keep practicing :D
You serious? Military grade hummers may kick some ass as an all-terrain vehicle, but what you see on the roads today, are crap. I've seen a hummer snap it's axle like a toothpick on a riverbed that an FJ cruised right over.
As for this guy, he needs to learn how to drive his FJ if he wants to do any 4xwheeling.
Toyota. I have 334,000 miles on my Taco and I have wheeled it on 3, 4 and 5 diamond trails for 9 years. I have yet to see a Jeep, Hummer or anything else perform as well even those with more lift and power (unless they are tubed and trailered). Mine is not stock but nearly. You ney sayers need to come wheeling with me, that includes TJ owners.
Those Stock tires are totally lame but great for shipping and they are related to The FJ's only recall on outsourced tire mounting. Once you do your fist tire change and get good ones you'll see a huge improvement

The toyota has some nice hardware but toyota wants you to belive its a offroader lol. Theres only one jeep! If it was lighter it would walk up, hey take your top down first lol not. Toyota corp sucks
fjers dont bash wrangler videos dont bash ours...both vehicles are equally great its all personal prefrance...i.e. the rubicon has the towing rating of my 4wheeler whereas someone has to be there ahead of you (fj with skilled driver) to pull you ass out
what on earth are you talking about? An FJ 'ahead' of me on a trail?? You're right, you'd have to find some crazily skilled driver to traverse what my SWB TJ can in an FJ (pathetic tie rods, I've seen 'em snap). If FJ's are as capable as you're saying, how come I'm searching all over youtube and can't find a thing that backs that up beyond ONE moab video. I see a whole lot of CON and ONE pro. Hmmm. I'll keep looking...
I see a lot of people get stuck at the begining, even fully locked vehicles. The trick is to hit it with just a little more speed (deflating also helps) the sand or mud makes the start really slick and for short wheel based vehicles the start of the hill the obsticals hit all 4 wheels at once where the rest of it only hits one axel at a time
I have a Hummer H3 and International Scout, no Jeeps here. I can't respect someone that can't drive up that silly little lump of a hill. Its really disappointing considering that the FJ is ok off road, he should have been able to do that with no issue.
I completely agree with you there. The driver obviously isn't very skilled offroad. But that doesn't say shit about the machine.
But, the H3? I personally don't care for it- esp for off road adventures. The last Hummer trail ride I led the H3 was the one out of the bunch that didn't do so well. Not sure of the driver's skill on that.
I have the H3 because its the only Hummer that fits down the trails that I use. I live in northern Wisconsin and its all woods, the H2 and H1 don't fit between the trees.
I've driven an FJ and I really wasn't impressed, it seemed far too high centered with too little ground clearance for such a high vehicle and as always, the Toyota engine is poorly tuned. The FJ seemed clumsy at best.
For serious off roading, I use my 1969 International Scout pickup. It'll climb a tree if you let it.
How do you figure the engine is poorly tuned? It makes a modest 278lb.ft. of torque at 3700 rpm. It's tuned for power between 2500-5500 rpm. The power under the curve of peak power is very smooth and flat.
I have both a 94 LandCruiser and an 08 FJ. I have no trouble taking them on trails around here. Trails that are "jeep only" trails.
Find a Toyota made V8, a newer model. Remove the top of the airbox. Then place your hand about 1 inch away from the opening to the snorkel. Make sure that your hand would completely cover the hole for the snorkel, if you placed it directly on it, but keep your hand about an inch away. The engine will die. One of the many funny quirks that I've found while working on the Toyota products that come into our Ford dealer. Thats how I know they're poorly tuned, I work on those annoyances every day.
Not sure about your ground clearance comment- it's on par w/ the Rubicon you listed as a better vehicle. The FJ does sit high, it takes a while to get used to.
My close friend used to have an old Scout. We took it all over the place. But that H3 doesn't do it for me. I guess we have our own tastes.
btw, I'm a professional - this isn't something I'm making up as I type. I've used a variety of machines off road for many years. And can appreciate whatever people like to drive. ;)
You're a professional in what capacity? I'm a Ford technician. The FJ is a very tall vehicle, it lacks ground clearance for its height. Its extremely tall and narrow. Not the greatest for off road. I just have the H3 for its smaller dimensions compared to the other Hummers.
@DaBucklessYooper Go to Jeeps website and do a comparision there between a Jeeps height and width with an FJ. You will find they are basically the exact same dimensions. Are Jeeps too tall and skinny as well?
I suppose the success of the new FJ means nothing. LOL. I'm not sure why or how people are denying what it is capable of.
It has competed and placed in the Baja 1000.. I don't recall the last time an h3 has done that. Let's not discredit the FJ. Whether you like it or not it is very capable. And has been for over 50 years. (LandCruiser)
Baja? Beetles have won that in the past. Its a hard rally, but how has it done in Dakar? Dakar has been dominated lately by the VW Toureg and its counterpart, the Porsche Cayenne.
The Touareg and Cayenne in the Dakar are no where near the production models. The winner of the T2 class (stock production vehicles) in 2007 was a 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser.
Thanks for the video, You need to learn how to use you'r a-track and you'r gears deflate you're tires, cause the fj can do that cement climb backward and forwards with no problem....

1- Sell the Toyota.
2- Get a real 4x4. (Wrangler Rubicon or Hummer)
3- Learn to drive.

1- Learn to respect others
2- Get off your high horse
3- Shove the Jeep up your ass
I'm tired of the majority of Jeep owners being dicks. Get a clue.
