I've struggled with these sweeps for years, I can never seem to get anyone off balance, is it because you're rotating the torso that they lose their balance?
@laufcra good question. The off balancing happens on your entry. There are some principles you must achieve to have good silat. On your entry you have to crash the opponent, putting them on the backwards lean. You have to rotate them off their axis. if you accomplish these two things then you can begin the sweep. Sometimes the problem happens during the sweep. if your angle is off you could be "reloading" the weight onto their leg. what happens when you try to sweep?
this OK if a person will punches you with his right hand and his right foot is at the front. But if I will punch you with right hand and my left foot forward, how can you apply this technique????
@MrLAKIWETPU Hello. If the opponent punches with the rear hand, the you push it towards the lead food and sweep the lead foot from the outside. It's the Sapu Luar sweep but from a rear hand punch. The harder the guy punches the harder he gets thrown off balance. I hope that answers your question. I will try to shoot a video to answer you when my video guy gets back from vacation! Guro Harley
Thanks Silk. Your right about Guro Chad, he can turn it up, lol. Glad you like the video and that it was helpful. We just shot a ton of more video for our channel so keep an eye out for upcoming new vids!
Nice and slow. Easy to follow. Very good instruction. Yet your relaxed attitude betrays you LOL. You could do all this also lightning fast if you so chose. THat was very helpfull. Btw. so are the rest of your clips.
Hello terrainaholic! Thanks for the great comments!!! Your right, it's a hard thing to see sometimes but we hope this video shows at least one of the basic angle and a couple of basic levers to help out those just getting started in Silat. Guro Harley
VERY NICLY EXPLAINED!!!!! People forget about the triangle aspect of the art especially when the 3rd point is'nt on the ground. I also like the fact he pointed out that the pull is downward not straight out. This will DEFINETLY help other stylists get these sweeps:)!
