This Ho Phra Keo is the 3rd built by Chao Phetsaraj around 1939. The 1st one built by king Setthathiraj in 1450. It was burned down by Siam in 1779 when King Siribounyasan lost war to Siam. The 3rd one was built by king Chao Anu in 1829. It was again burned down by Siam 1832. Not only Ho Phrakeo, but the whole city Vientiane was burned down by Siam which changed its name to Thailand in 1939.
