thanks for sharing, i want to know how you created and build the biger turning platforme that you put all the turntable on, i am truing to build one for a game show. that will use the same speed thanks. realy need your advise.
Loved seeing this, and the accompanying "how to" video. David, your work is brilliant. Thank you for sharing it with the world. This is a hypnotic and beautiful video.
An amazing video! Would it still work (and by "work" I mean "be interesting") with less representational art, even with completely abstract art? I am a preschool teacher and my first thought on seeing a praxinoscope video was "How could I do this with my class?" My students are just beginning to draw "things" and most of their art is still explorations of line and shape and color.
Dear David, Your work is a truly inspiring and beautiful work of art. I look forward to seeing more from your wonderful creativity. And thanks so much for the insights shared in this follow-up video. Best of luck!
Brilliant, but that doesn't explain how the images suddenly changed while the discs were spinning, like when the revolving acorn suddenly sprouts into a tree. They must have stopped the disc and changed it to achieve that...
All the animation was created in camera. The bit with the acorn growing into a tree was created by having a series of discs with various different stages of the acorn growth on, and we would cut between them. Each disc had 16 frames on, and in order to overlap between the animations (to make it run smoothly) each new disc would progress by 8 frames. The acorn-tree bit was one of the real ball-aches of the project, but worth it.
I agree with ReddJinx - This is completely astounding. Flawless is more like it. Not only is the technique very unique but it is hardly ever seen anymore. I think the thing that sold me over all was how perfectly the concept goes with the song.
You should enter a competition, this is amazing. I haven't seen anything like this. Totally breathtaking. You deserve a prize for this! I think it's the best music video I have ever seen!
I can officially say this is the most amazing thing I've ever seen on YouTube. Congrats to an amazingly well executed shoot. What cam and motion control rig were you using. Camera looks like a Red in a few of those shots.
Hey, you're right! Good spot. We used the Red to shoot it all on, and a Cyclops Motion Control rig. So it was really nice to combine the reasonably high production values, lo-fi concept.
Could you tell me how you made the mirrored shapes I would lik to try and make one myself

Simply a Masterclass in how to be creative.
My understanding is that a typical music video budget is £100k. I hope they paid the going rate for this, because it is exceptional.
Regardless, it's probably worth even more on the guy's showreel for future commissions.
Most excellent :-)
