I just love how Cadillac was able to make a car that can run with the best Germany has to offer in the respective class. The CTS-V is simple yet advanced, it almost reminds me of those older muscle cars but with all the wonderful features of a modern car. I liked the older E39 M5 BMWs but hardly like the newer V10, give me an old torquey V8 anyday.
While Caddy beated the M5 with simple technology, its engine may end up being more complex later on due to the performance wars and environmental regulations. So, it's going to have to go through BMW's, Audi's, and MB's ordeals of unreliability to stay competitive.
and yet the caddy has more torque at idle, than the m5 has at peak. and has a nicer interior, is faster, is less expensive, can be viewed without requiring eye bleach afterwards.
@Intrepidman m5 came out in 2004. ctsv came out in 2009. two completely different generations. the ctsv is supercharge, the m5 is naturally aspirated. The after market supercharger M5 kit completely demolishes the CTSv. Sad to say... a 5 year older M5 is better than a brand new CTSv. Imagine what the next m5 will do. ;)

I own a 2006 M5 and I have never been pass by any CTS-V or american V8 including Corvettes. Driving at high speeds is like taking candy from a little kid!!!
I also own a 2002 M5 and is the same story.....American cars are pretty good from 0-100mph in a straight line due to the low end torque but at high speeds they can't compete at all....; BMW's car feedback and drivability is way ahead of its competitors if you really like driving, not just sit behing the wheel and press the accelator.
This american marketing at its best "the American Dream" using the manual M5 version instead of the SMG version, but this is not reality on the street...the CTS-V is not faster than the M5 SMG and the engineering is years if not decades behind. Even though the M5 is a four year old car NA vs a brand new car SC, the M5 is still the best high performance sedan overall second to none.

The F10 M5 will run circles around the 2010 CTSv hands down. The only way the CTSv will be faster is if it had over 70k worth of aftermarket upgrades.

I own a 2006 M5 and I have never been pass by any CTS-V or american V8 including Corvettes. Driving at high speeds is like taking candy from a little kid!!!
I also own a 2002 M5 and is the same story.....American cars are pretty good from 0-100mph in a straight line due to the low end torque but at high speeds they can't compete at all....; BMW's car feedback and drivability is way ahead of its competitors if you really like driving, not just sit behing the wheel and press the accelator.

This american marketing at its best "the American Dream" using the manual M5 version instead of the SMG version, but this is not reality on the street...the CTS-V is not faster than the M5 SMG and the engineering is years if not decades behind. Even though the M5 is a four year old car NA vs a brand new car SC, the M5 is still the best high performance sedan overall second to none.

The 2010 CTSv can barely keep up with the 2004 M5 as it is. Even a slight modification of the 2004 M5 allows it to completely decimate the next generation 2010 CTSv.
Both of these cars are above the magical 60k mark. If anyone is complaining about one car being 30k over the other; it is because the M5 is much better. The F10 M5 will run circles around the 2010 CTSv hands down. The only way the CTSv will be faster is if it had over 70k worth of aftermarket upgrades.

The only way for M5 to be noticably faster was to spend 45K for Dinan to bore out the 5.0 V10 to 5.5. No replacement for displacement. We get that stock on a 6.2 CTS-V...all we need is a pulley swap for 3K, and the M5 drivers get angry all over again.:>)

Again...since this falls on deaf ears. John H now prefers the manual CTS-V for track times. Johnny O'C. even beat Jonh H in a CTS-V at Montecillo. The Nurburgring time John H got was done in a stock automatic version...the limit of which is 175mph. The manuals limit is 191mph.
In other words, the Panamera and CTS-V would be too close to call a winner, cuz 1 would "win", then the other would "win" till it's pointless.
The new M5, if it's not AWD, won't be faster around the Nurburgring

@RODikUlus yeah i know that but it will reach 200+ stock but just not as fast due to the 7 gears DSG or SMG gearbox
