Leonard with Buck Owens and Merle Haggard playing in his band. A woman by the name of Bonnie Campbell singing harmony she would later marry Alvis E. Owens, and now you know the rest of the story.
@drmoutebank Well you got most of it correct except where Merle played in the recording sessions with Leonard. Most of the harmony was sang by Leonard's wife Wanda. Merle did not play in the studio on these recordings, but the late Roy Nichols and some others played lead guitar on some of them. Glad that you enjoyed this song.
I met Tommy when the band my dad was in backed him up. He came to our house and had supper with us and even went snowmobiling. What a great guy he was. He told me that he got the idea for "If You Can't Bite Don't Growl" when he was running late to the studio and ran into a woman who's dok barked, but the dog didn't have teeth!
@cjdahlien Thanks for your comments. tommy was quite a character by all means. he had a way with situations and turned them into songs we still enjoy.
@haverstock1888 Thank you so much for the comments. I agree with you that Tommy was a hard act to follow. He left us so much good music and song to remember.
I'd forgotten how wonderful Tommy Collins was.
