  • You just don't get choruses like this anymore.

  • who's disliked this? :S

  • Tony played bass on live versions, Bernie played studio version.

  • I always thought the bass on this record was brilliant almost like a lead guitar. And I always thought it was Bernie playing it. It looks like it was Tony unless a Bass player was hidden away somewhere as Tony's guitar did not look like a traditional Bass, any experts out there to put me right ? Thanks !

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever. How come I never heard it on New York City radio in 1970? Allan and Tony are the best! Greatest band ever!!

  • Brilliant song. Cheers!

  • the strongest vocals of any guitar band? that'll be The Hollies

  • I LOVE THIS MUSIC!!!

  • I'm sure I have this on LP Live somewhere.

  • @canadaguy2112ca ,yes its on hollies live hits from 76,great album!

  • When Bernie Calvert moved to piano, Tony would take over the bass. Such is the case here. Love the Hollies. Allan is the Top.

  • I do agree with you, Poopaloo55: Terry was do damn hot!! They all were, especially Allan of course.

  • If they had both been in front of me I don`t know which I would choose. Just kidding...its always been ALLAN!

Aww, poor me, I never got the chance anyway :((

    .

  • great and beautiful song, nice memories , what a pity the sound of the video, but the hollies are the hollies, great GREAT!

  • Beautiful song in the voice of ALLAN is wonderful!

  • Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how Terry morphed from 'all buttoned up' to pretty darned hot in the mid-70s? (GREAT hair!). It can't have been easy being in the presence of a DREAMBOAT like Allan, but Terry and Tony both have it all goin' on. Check out Terry giving it his all in 'Daddy Don't Mind'...nice! Nothing beats their vocal harmony either.

  • Yes thats very true, its the long hair that did it :)

  • @Poopaloo55 yes the 70's Terry was so hot, swinging that gorgeous hair making me go crazy.

  • @bcrfan21 TRUE...The Hollies were all very handsome men.....be still my heart!

  • I'm just gobsmacked when it comes to "THE HOLLIES"I sit here with my mouth wide open I can't speak!Help I'm speechless! I agree with Poopaloo55 they are Magnificent especially our "ALLAN" thanx for posting.. lyndloo..

  • its odd to see toni hicks playing bass instead of there normal bass player

  • Hollies you are so Special. You choose any song and sculp it like nobody can. The feeling Allan brings to the lyrics it's what makes them so unique in his voice.

  • He's MAGNIFICENT!!

  • Oh I just LOVE this!!!!!!!!!!

  • Adoro essa música, adoro os Hollies e amo Allan Clarke que voz maravilhosa, lindo demais, e quando ele sorri, nossaaaaaaaaa

  • whos the drummer? wasnt bobby balding?

  • @Acerian He wore a wig.

  • as a album buyer not a single buyer{i cant agree with moorlock@))#}the fun of buying hollies albums was the unexpected {write on crazy steal both good albums}my point is you never got the same with the hollies {more than you can say for other groups

  • Poor quality video or not, there are no other videos of the band doing this song, so this is it folks.

  • one of my favourite songs of all time - special memories.

  • great song shame vidio quality so poor.if you like rarer hollies tracks try the survivor on youtube

  • You must be referring to the shaky, audio quality of this video which "treasurefromthedeep" acknowledges."out of tune style"!!?.Are you kidding?

  • I LOVE THE HOLLIES!!! I'm 36 but I love them ever since I first discovered them... I love that out-of-tune style of theirs, that never beats the quality of the lyrics.

  • More good live stuff.Alan and Tony giving it 120%!

  • @coverman73 and Terry.

  • beautiful clip - this song with "air that i breathe" and "he aint heavy" represent 3 eternal classics laid down by these guys

  • Dont criticise a band without knowing it well...Those following tracks are real essential tracks by the Eagles...

I like them specially when they sound a little psyche or heavy or even megalo (it was the mid 70s sound for almost everybody) mixed with their typical folk sound...

  • eagles just went all country and western in other words shit

  • that s makes me laugh... i m not particulary an Eagles fan! i like them as i like 100 other 60s 70s band... i ve got 1000 cd s and the majority are more than 25 years old! ... The difference between me and (some of you) is that i look beyond the popular impression...

  • Eagles was better tahn Hollies? Are you crazy? HOLLIES WAS THE MOST PERFECT BAND IN THE VOCAL HAMONIES

  • it s where it all goes in wrong ways... since the following year 1976 the band started to record slow horrible stuff...with just one or two track to save from the rage ... in this slow music style...in 1976 The Eagles crush easily The Hollies...

From my point of vue Their last good album was cleary their '1974 effort...

  • Well they are'nt the bloody Eagles are they??

Completely different generations -- I bet the Eagles would not appreciate your comment, most musicians appreciate the Hollies and their terrific career.

  • pfffff ...i appreciate the Hollies ! but from 64 to 74 ...more or less...if you heard their 78 disco (under bee gees) effort...it s just a joke...

And most musical critics have the same point of vue...open your eyes !

  • I live in buenos Aires.I discovered the hollies with another bands when i was a small teenager. For casualty. From this time today I can hear all kind of music. Hollies had a better voice than Bee Gees (cos hollies song ballad, regaee, bossa nova, disco, heavy rock, and so on).And during the Beatles existence, they produced the same quality (dear eloisa, oriental sadness, charlie and fred, butterfly).Por lo tanto no rompas las pelotas con tus comentarios cargados de ironia que esconde odio.

  • did you ever heard those Bee Gees superbe records

    "Horizontal" (1968)

    & "Trafalgar" (1971)

Its five years before their (criticized) disco sound...

and i like those 2 superbe album as much as the best records of the Hollies...

Me gusta l'ironia i bestirme de un rehir negro...yo se que soy pretenciosso...pero...que puedo asser si la base de lo que digo en musica es pura verda!hehe

  • Well...Everybody have right of think anything.

I admired Bee Gees. And a lot of their songs are a gems in my archive. But,When you listened Bee gees singing a rock Like "Long Cool Woman" or "Hey Willy",or "Courage in your convictions"? When you listened Bee gees singing bossa nova like Tel me To my face,or Latino ryhtm like "Caracas"?

  • that true ...everybody's right in his own way... personnally me and my little bro dont like their late 70s disco sound...and the latino disco "caracas" is clearly not my kind of thing...in 1978 stuff i m more into UFO or heavier stuff... but you are latino ! so i understand very well that you like those kind of sounds... hopefully we have some different point of vue...if not it would be quite boring...i recognize it...

  • Please, understand me,first,my english language is bad.And that make began misunertood.Confussions.2)I respect you point of view.of course.3)I recognoice that a sometimes old feelings impulse me ove the brain reasons.Anyway,I love Hollies music.I feel sorrow cos the are unaprecciate and underrated band. But please,I beg your pardon if my comments hurt you.I never have that kind of ideas.Friends?

  • sure ...2 hollies fans can only be friends...

  • Yes, the Hollies were never appreciated enough. Such a shame. They are BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

  • It all boils down to personal taste. When i listen to my favorite songs of the 60's now, they don't have the same clout as they did. probably because they where mixed to play on valve equipment "Raw" as apposed to solid state "Transister" clean reproduction.

  • This song dates from 1970. They needed another ballad after "He Ain't Heavy..." because it would have been too jarring to release anything else. But what about "Hey Willy" from '71, a rocker combining Zeppelin and Jerry Lee Lewis. I agree their last totally spot-on LP was "Hollies" ('74), but I think "Draggin' My Heels" from '76 is excellent. They were all over the place musically, maybe that's what prevented them from staying popular. The public had a hard time knowing what to expect.

  • But virtually every Eagles song is B-O-R-I-N-G!

  • There aren't to many songs this band did that weren't near perfect,if anyone has a Bruce Springsteen composition they did called Sandy please post it.They are tremendous on that record.

  • I think the Sandy's Hollies is on here, I am sure I have listened to it. I love it to.

  • Definitively wonderful. This song is great and the vocal is perfect.

  • useless info for the day.......listen to your recording of this and guess who plays piano as then starving session musician,,,,,,,,,,Reg Dwight of course,Better known these days as ELTON JOHN. :o)

  • The follow-up to the massive hit "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". Nice ballad. Their next single, "Gasoline Alley Bred" would be one of their best ever.

  • Another performance with Tony on bass? How often did this happen? I thought the only bass players the Hollies had were Eric Haydock and Bernie Calvert.

  • When Bernie plays piano, either Terry or Tony would switch to bass.

  • Bernie Calvert player piano and Tony Hics player bass!!!

  • This is great, thanks for posting!
