Joining the EU is about increasing economy and aligning your politics to that of other countries so we are singing from the same sheet so to speak. All Serbian newspapers (bar Pravda) are saying that the anti-gay 'demonstrators' were an embarrassment to Belgrade and Serbia. Thirdly, democracy is a Greek theory, not American.
You ever heard about mass media control? Yes, every media in serbia is harshly judging the anti gay protests. But have you ever been in Serbia? Have you ever spoken to any of us?
And just bear in mind that our current politics has to agree with everything that EU is saying. So if EU says: Make a gay parade, our president has to obey that command. From reading broadly I conclude that the majority of independent papers within Serbia and outside are appalled by the anti-gay demonstrators in Belgrade and the hooliganism in Italy. I will simplify it as much as I can...
We are desperate to get into EU - but EU won't allow us to get in for at least 10-15 years.
And because our political leadership is desperate we will do and say what ever you command us to do or say, we are basically a whore-country (something like you were in the time when Tony was prime m.)
So we have to send a picture to the whole world that we are a loving, caring and gay supporting nation and our medias are doing a really really good job.

Joining the EU is about increasing economy and aligning your politics to that of other countries so we are singing from the same sheet so to speak. It also means workers have more rights and are able to travel freely between countries. I don't understand why people are so afraid of the EU? I still think that the majority of people in Serbia more open-minded about issues like homosexuality than you say.

From reading broadly I conclude that the majority of independent papers within Serbia and outside are appalled by the anti-gay demonstrators in Belgrade and the hooliganism in Italy. Serbia has always had a problem with 'hooliganism' and nationalism. Now the government, media and majority of people are saying NO to it, they don't want a return to violence and hooliganism.

Being gay is a sexual preference that doesn't affect in any way us who are not. If you gave yourself a chance, you'd realize that they can, like anyone else, have great human qualities, sometimes even more than ordinary people. Stop being a homophobe.
