  • he could dance like that when drunk??!

  • sorry they did more like 7 or 8 takes.

  • I love how he was actually drunk while doing this (in the extras on the dvd they said that he took a shot of whiskey before every take, and that they did over 20 takes). Just goes to show you how talented he truly was.

  • Any one know what the music is called I love this tune

  • I read somewhere that Fred to make this scene more realistic he drank two drinks before the take and after every take he had one more. They ended up taken seven takes and in the end they choose to use the last take, nr. 7 in the movie.

  • I don't think he was drunk. look at the briliant timing !

Dean martin in the rat pack days was actually drinking apple juice onstage.

    Off.... well maybe not.

    LOL

  • yeah i remember his daughter ava saying somewhere they'd given him half a dozen shots or so shots to loosen him up a bit.

  • Don't kid yourselves. Even if Astaire did do the takes for this under the influence, he'd rehearsed it meticulously so many dozens of times, he had it down cold. This is one of my favorites of his dance routines.

  • Happy 110th birthday Fred

    u rock

  • Oh, this is wonderful. He's so graceful even while drunk or pretending to be.

  • I watch this whenever I need a lift. And yes, he was drunk when they filmed this. Or at least he had had a lot to drink. If you total up all the drinks he had eight all together for this take. Now he probably weighed 140 soaking wet and I weigh much more than that and eight drinks for me = NO...MEMORY...OF...ANYTHING :) However his dancing is still brilliant and inspired. Long Live his memory and films!

  • omg i love it when he cant find his dance partner!

  • if fred astaire was really drunk while he did this..I bet the poor girl was tired after seven takes lol cuz she was bein thrown around alot lol.

  • I thouight Marjorie Reynolds was gorgeous in this movie. How come movie stars never quite look that beautiful today ?

  • The same goes for the old actors, too. There's nothing as cool as a classic movie star. They don't make 'em like they used to.

  • Great video! I read somewhere that, to make the scene more realistic, Fred drank 2 bourbons before the first take, and one before each succeeding take: in the movie, they use the seventh take...

I love this movie, but it was so strange to see Fred in the part of the villain!

  • I love how everyone cheers at the end when Fred takes a nosedive. XD

  • Lol. That's how I felt like on New Years.

    Except I couldn't dance...

  • Another great video from Holiday Inn!!

  • Holiday Inn IS a GREAT movie! Compare it to White Christmas and it looks perfect!
