I use a 12lb hammer with a steel handle (Pop busted out 2 handles and welded a length of pipe to the head) and an old tractor trailer tire....beat the hell out of the tire for 7 rounds last night and now my arms feel like their carved out of oak.
@ThePainterr Id start with a 10. Swinging is about speed so weight isn't as important (rate of force development), and you can slide a 5 lb plate over the hammer to do the finger walking with more weight if needed. Good luck, thanks for checking out the video.
@jhashey Wanted to say thanks for the posting. Really a great motivation for me.Thanks for the advice. Went out and bought a 10lb'er today. From now on: Thors the name, sledgehammerings the game!
This is the the first this is the only video I have seen that demostrates behind the back swings with a sledge. An excerise that is great for rotator cuff mucsles. Well done.
@Fresprt Thanks! as you know, with a light sledge, the rotator cuff can be strengthened by both the range of motion and absorbing the vibration from the impact.
I subscribed to your channel yesterday and it really has very good videos for all of us engaged to train people ..... greetings from Chile (south america ).... envy your gym ha, ha, ha
Casting with the hammer or even with a sand-filled big red wiffle ball bat is awesome for a warm-up for pitchers. If you guys are looking to add pieces of equipment to your arsenal that are of a reasonable price and have tons of variations, then the sledge hammer is the way to go!
