Your all saying their running down the stairs but im almost 100% sure I saw the first firefighter go through the doors to the pole? he reached up to open the door release catch at the top? Thats how they are in west mids...and on Londons burning for that matter! lol (i know its a tv programme chill) :)
I don't blame the crew for a slow turn out. What's crazy is having to go on the bell to calls like this.
It's apparently too big a Heath+Safety risk for firefighters to use the pole, but what about the H+S risks of the appliance taking priority over all other traffic, crossing red lights, travelling on the wrong side of the road etc etc for someone SHUT IN A LIFT. As a serving London paramedic it doesn't make sense to me.
@Bluezn2z it beggars belief doesn't it...." we won't insure you to slide down the pole coz it's a health and safety hazzard but feel free to run into a burning building".......what is the world coming to!
using the pole = quicker turnout (saving lives)
using the stairs = trip and injured so can't turn out anyway.
@train672 The Doors are on a timer, so if the bells went down and they opened then they have to get the machine out of the dorrs before they go, its better to have them dont by a firefighter because then if the doors open then they know they are ready to go out if you get what i mean,
@train672 the doors don't usually do that in the UK...they are controlled by two sets of buttons...one set in the watchroom and the other in the appliance room. and they were going to a persons in lift call so they tend to go a bit slower.
@Hotelkabouter What station are you based at & yeah, always fun to be with the people you know, i remember being at bethnal green and riding on the pump, going round roundabout singing the magic roundabout theme tune !! haha
AAAA. 261829Z DEC 2009 Good video this....Just one point do the LFB use the sliding down pole to Fire appliances that used to be used years ago ?.......AR.
@fourwayscottage Some fire stations do still use the poles, but the union are trying to put every pole hosue off the run because its a health & safety hazard, which i think is wrong because a health & safety hazard is running into a burning building... So yeah, but soem stations still infact use the pole house.
Finally, FINALLY, I get to see a turn-out from WITHIN the station!

Great film, thank you! The inside story... it's a bit less spectacular when we turn out, we only have one pump. But the colleagues are great fun.
