  • absolutely delightful to watch. Nicolina dances to perfection. Amazing how she has mastered the art of another culture

  • Amazing performance!!!

  • I am seriously impressed by her! We Indians should really take a cue from her.

  • This programme, in some form or other ( at least as a video clip) should be displayed and preserved in the united nations for the humanity and human civilization to witness and for the posterity.

  • It is my fortune to have the opportunity to witness this Classical dance on uTube. Everything about it- the dance, the music, the singing, the opening, the lighting, the ending posture, all are Execellent.Let us state it clearly. In spirituality , in culture,in traditions - no other country in the world can come even close to INDIA. This is all becoz of the supremely noble, positive & universal values of sanatana DHARMA (Hindu dharma ).

  • I can't deny : beautiful performance !

  • i wish i had posture lik datttt

  • beautiful posture, mudras, talam, everything. great job! the rasa is definitely approached :D

  • i cant express how wonderful is ur dance

i saw so many performances but not like this. Being a dancer, i would like to become like u in performance and perfection.

  • awesome

  • Phenomenal performance. Astounding symmetry in the dance. Pleased to see a foreign national performing a traditional indian dance so well. Kudos to her and her trainer.

  • A-MA-ZING!!

  • wow.............. wonderful....

  • i wonder hu taught her..... huevr it is... is defintely gr8.... bcos the dance is dat gr8 .she almost looks like shiva at 1:27, 2:48 , 3:28, 4:27, 5:23-5:29,6:51!!!! she truly amazing and INSPIRING!!!

  • "Oh, Numya Shiva!" means something. How should I know that other sounds don't mean something? Shiva as far as I know is a god of destruction believed in by the Hindus so it is not surprising that the dance would look very martial art in form. How old is the song?

  • Shiva is the supreme deity in the Hindu religion, not just the God of Destruction. He is also the creator God. His name means "The Auspicious One" and is often seen as kind and just as much a benefactor as he is a destroyer. He is also referred to as "The Pure One."

It doesn't look like a martial art to me. It more looks like a dance directed at Shiva, in praise.

The song was written less than seventy five years ago by Maharajapuram Santhanam as a revati ragam.

  • @Arnarkusaga, thanks for the information. My best friend was a Hindu Indian since the time I was four years old, but I moved and lost track of him since eleven years old. His god was an elephant who was the brother of another elephant (so I've heard). I'm well aware that Shiva is part of Brahma. Shiva is the physical God of the supreme deity who has some strange stories about him. The dance here is the best one I've seen on You Tube.

  • Yes, it is very well done. The elephant god was probably Lord Ganesh. In some regions of India, Ganesh is more widely worshiped than Shiva. Ganesh, as well as Shiva, are two of the five primary forms of God (the others being Vishnu, Devi, and Surya. Devi is the only female form presented as a part of God).

  • @Arnarkusaga, My friend's god was the brother of Ganesh and he was named after him. So his god was not as well known as Ganesh or Shiva. I hear it as Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva as the top three and some add Ganesh along with a fifth. Thank you again with some names to consider.

  • @ABAisSCIENCE, Okay the five I've always heard were Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and lastly Krishna and Ganesh. In that order of power and respect accordingly. But what do I know Arnarkusaga?

  • Very artfully done. Incredible poise.

  • Difficult dance steps were carried out so simply by the artist in this performance. Brilliant.

  • Wowii She sooo Good can watch itt all dayyy its too perfecttt ...<3 x

  • I just watched a dance just like this, but with much more gutteral sounds from a male accompanying the song and the pace was much quicker. What do such differences represent? What do the sounds around 4:45 mean?

  • @ReligionOfSacrifice , it called a Tala, you might know it as a beat, the expression of dance has been there since time immemorial, before music instrument the Tala used to be give by human voice, to guide the mudras and connect the soul to the Lord.

    Peace

  • wow !! marvellous !! I dont know bharathanatyam, but I love the dance. I have never seen such a perfection. I feel like Shiva himself entered her soul. No simple words can do the justice to her perfection of mudras. May god bless you, Nikolina.

  • Amazing..So agile, energetic and crisp. Very beautiful !!!

  • wow,this is unbelievably good...god bless u!!!

  • beautiful dancer beautiful song wow wow wow

  • wow being a foreign person (to india), she has done REALLY well!

  • Dear Kumarsa108, After many years, I am finally finding out, there are movements/state of mind/ feeling make human freely access Shakti and there are movements, which shut off this positive energies into dancers/humans. ( Yes, I have been teaching dance. ) True Dance is a play of Shakti through human body. Dancer expands further into Space/Universe and loose border with Shiva. Whenever this happens, people say," Wow this is a great dance!!!" The audience felt Oneness with Shiva.

  • exquisite

  • OMG THIS IS AMAZING

  • Awesome , Amazed , don't know what to say . Great peformance. Very happy to see a foreigner perform Bharatnatyam so gracefully. Mind Blowing.

  • Great Dance..... So gracefull.....

    May Lord Shiva bless her....

  • She is Super. Such great extension of legs is rare with humans. She could be dancing thatt very complex Swan Lake very easily. However I have a suggestion. Can music be speed up in 1/3 of the dance with faster percusions to really mimic the energy of Tandava. I would like to see this performer dance again.

  • @karunamrita I agree it would be great if it was a bit faster.

  • fantastic

  • Wow...simply superb. The Dancer's charm and grace is so mesmarizing.

  • i'm intrigued by her costume. how is it assembled (i.e, are there pants and a shirt, or is it one big saree)?

  • it is not one saree. it is one set of pants, one set which goes around the midriff, and two sets of frills which are attached to the pants. plus the blouse. all are stitched from a beautiful Silk saree.

  • that clears things up. thank you!

  • superb!

  • there was so much grace in her performance. Loved it so much!

  • Bharathanatiyam..A tribute to lord nadaraja! man her dance was superb! being learning such e lovely art from the tender age of 5, i m proud of this video and her true loyalty to bharathanatiyam! there u go gerl!

  • natraja

  • who is this genekos person?... what do they know about bharatanataym?

  • i know nothing much about Bharatanatyam, thats just my opion...

  • i loved it, except i fine you wave your hands a lil too much, but loved it- trinidad

  • I could not disagree more - every single hand gesture is used to convey the story. That is one of the hallmarks of classical Indian dance, as it is in Hawaiian dance as well. The dancer's physical stamina is evident. In this padam, the fierce energy and grandeur of Nataraj is shown by the fact that He carries the waters of the mighty Ganges through his matted locks, or that he carries the drum which times the passage of time. No she did not wave her hands too much. She did this magnificently!!
