The Two Ronnies proved you don't have to dirty, foul-mouthed, or obscene to be funny. Truly intelligent comedy. Love those two guys. By the way, I'm an American, and I have always thought the British stand head and shoulders above Americans when it comes to comedy.
@MaskedMan66 It turns out that we did...back in 1962! If you look at the Wikipedia entry for Match Game, you'll find that at least 7 countries, including the UK and Australia, had their own versions of this game. The Aussies came out with "Blankety Blanks" one year before the Brits had "Blankety Blank."
Nyaw! Patrick Troughton was absolutely awesome in this. Barely recogniseable too... a true testament to his talent. X3 Awesome, thanks for uploading this.
I've seen the the "Here Come da Judge" routine that Sammy did which was originally done by Pigmeat Markham. The Two Ronnies courtroom sketch was sharp and funny.
Courtrooms are normally seen as boring and tedious so any joke against this background will work well, as it livens the atmosphere for example, 1:12-1:15 (after playing a gameshow) "...now you are charged with first degree murder..."
I can take a guess at it, but the whole "your mother" thing is so antiquated I think it's best to leave it alone so it can get the rest it so desperately needs.
Always found Chaucer a bit dry, frankly. As for Shakespeare, I performed in two back-to-back (and very different) productions of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" only last year.
That's my fave Willie the Shakes play, actually; all told, I've been in it four times and played seven characters.
I thought the judge looked and sounded familiar! He did a lot of TV work over the years, but I had no idea that he worked with The Two Ronnies! Excellent!
i think if they actually did a gameshow of this it would actually be worth watching coz this kicks ass

Why is a courtroom the best place in the world to set a comedy routine?
MaskedMan66 3 years ago
Courtrooms are normally seen as boring and tedious so any joke against this background will work well, as it livens the atmosphere for example, 1:12-1:15 (after playing a gameshow) "...now you are charged with first degree murder..."

American comedy couldn't come up with something this funny.

You've never seen Sammy Davis, Jr.'s "Here Come da Judge" skits, then.
MaskedMan66 3 years ago
its problely a newer show than this so therefore its ripping of da two ronnies
Haddersz 3 years ago
The show those skits appeared on was "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," which premiered in 1968, three years before "The Two Ronnies" hit the screen.

are you a character from the importance of being ernest?
oh and the brits had cracking comedy before america was even invented. read any chaucer or shakespeare lately?
egskilekki 2 years ago
No, just a character.
