  • Here we are in 2011... 32 years later and they made $736 000 000 in their 360 tour... I hope they last another decade... I'd hate to see them go :'(

  • I can hardly believe this is the same person who led us in singing Happy Birthday to his friend Nelson Mandela last week.

  • Not 40 yet and feel like an old fan

  • daniel radcliffe

  • This reminds so much of "Last Night on Earth."

It's so cool how they recycle their sound into their modern albums. And it's always that posh bass sound!

  • 8 yeaRS is a long time - hereby proven.

  • i sure hope Songs of Ascent is better than this!!

    :)

  • "This is gold, Jerry! Gold!!" The Edge still had hair!!!

  • Bono fancy a dirty weekend on Mars?

  • It' s certainly the sound of them. But the video images remains some 60's bands.

    ¡Amazing!

  • He does look like a beatle whats going on here does the global elite select who goes on stage and who to bump off when the expected time is set. this year John Lennon was shot this year this band got signed! He is definately a beatle drone!

  • They were only 18-19 then...Damn... :D

  • amazing to think just 8 years later they released the joshua tree......

  • call me strange but I think that this is better. adam at 2:15 on the planet is priceless.

  • @GRAHAMEVS - its amazing to think that one year later they released Boy

  • @GRAHAMEVS Some artists don't even last 8 years and make a huge impact. Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana come to mind

  • Totally influenced by Joey Ramone.. :)

  • love his hairdo.

  • haha its so crazy to see the band now and then. i must say, bono had quite the dance moves back then

  • So young !

  • I really love this. Thanks for posting. Man, you know it's old when you see Adam with a Rickenbacker. U2, just coming out of the punk era. Amazing.

  • What were they thinking when they did this? This sounds like stir fried shit in a blender.

This must be U2 taking the piss out off the 60's.

If not they must be sorry it surfaced like a flushed turd on YouTube .....

  • it cool to see them so young

  • omg U2 has been my favorite band for 25 years and I have never seen this. Thank you thank you for posting.

  • Awesome post! Thanks, i've never seen this before.

  • As a long term fan, I'd rather here this than anything of the last 10 years...such a shame theyve gone adult contemporary...actually love this song...

  • ok they definetly werent as good as joy division around this time, but i think if they would have kept this sound they would have better craftsman , but they went more mainstream.

  • Yes Id luv to get bono to fuck me hard and reproduce a new race on Mars! As Bono is a red haired!

  • Wow. Compare this to Joy Divisions' TV performances from this time, and U2 clearly suck in comparison.

Who was to know that in 36 months they would be superstars?

  • Very cool! There is a program out on DVD of the "Out of Ireland - The Hit Songs & Artists of Irish Music (From a Whisper to a Scream)"

There is a brief clip of this song and lots of other footage and interviews with Bono, Edge, Gavin Friday - talking about the music in the late 70's and early 80's, Lypton Village, The Virgin Prunes, The Radiators From Space, The Blade, lots of good stuff.

If you search for "Out of Ireland U2" it's the second hit on youtube. I have the clip up. The DVD is great

  • I love this track. It reminds me so much of Blondie's Union City Blue right around 2:11.

  • The best album of all has got to be "The Joshua Tree", "With or without you" kicks ass.

  • lol even then bono wore those red and black jackets... lol

  • You don't like R&H but think adding trad rock elements to their music improved their sound? Have you listened to R&H? It's their most american album.

Eitherway, my personal preference is earliest u2 and latest. This vid is amazing! Their last single Windows In The Skies is probabaly their best song ever. Up there with One and all the early classics.

    x

  • guyss

  • I've never heared this song before.

    Very good:)

Edge plays the guitar with gloves on his hands xD (like in New Year's Day;))

  • I didn't even know this song existed...wow, thx!

  • lol Bono is the life from a distant planet in this vid. love to see early vids like this and these are what actually inspire me to really get with my band and just write brilliant songs like U2! Black September! REMEMBER THAT NAME. U2 FOREVER!

  • LOL !!!
