EXCELLENT review and thank you for not spoiling it! I wanted to hear your opinion before I saw it. I really want to see another film from s. africa called white wedding but I have been looking for reviews of it. I really trust your opinion, so could you please please review this for me?? whiteweddingmovie. com
Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon) is captain of the NATIONAL team, not A team, as is explicictly explained in the fucking film. I don't know how the fuck you didn't catch that.
As a South African this was an amazing time during our history. I was still in high school when this happened on a rugby tour. lol! The whole events depicted in trhe movie brought South Africans of all races together like nothing before (and since) in our history.
Oscar bound. This movie is like "Crash" not fully appreciated until....Oscars' night!
This movie has a problem: American watchers are used to Rambo & Happy Gilmore. As Clint said "if you think this is a sport movie, you missed the point". This is not about bullets, love, or anything else. This movie tells you a story that took place, that united a country. It's about the creativeness of an amazing politician. Rugby is circumstancial. You could have done the same movie with ping-pong.
i agree wholeheartedly on this one. i found the start of, as you said it, the last 'third' of the movie to be almost abrupt. it was almost as though Invictus had a minor ending and was then continued on top of "Remember The Titans" mixed with "Miracle". I think the one thing the movie succeeded in doing is give insight into the life of Mandela without being something you would see on the Discovery Channel. It's just sad it took a large screen to do it, especially with the baggage at the end.

This is the sad thing about this movie. It's fantastic, but the sport is lost on the American audience.
I'm British, and rugby is VERY important. The movie was inspirational, but the slow motion and sound effects made a bit of a joke out of the game.
Rugby ftw though.
