it is pretty sick but then again it's pretty fucking badass i never knew that old man i saw in christine and the quick and the dead played ed gein.Awesome
i dont know why people are making refrence to this ripping texas chainsaw, when they both came out at the same time.with so many simalaritys ide sau=y they where both using the same script
BOB CLARK WAS A DERANGED DIRECTOR WHO LOVED HIS RHINESTONE HE FOUND AT PORKY'S WHILE LISTENING TO A CHRISTMAS STORY ABOUT SOME LOOSE CANNONS WHO HUNG OUT AT PORKY'S 2 AND KNEW THAT CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS.
I have this one on VHS.....Exploited films released it here in the UK back in the late 90's. A very grim and macabre film, brilliantly acted by Roberts Blossom, almost up there with FRIGHTMARE as a vivid depiction of phsycopathic behaviour.
Honestly, I liked this movie, but it's pretty terrible and stupid. And I don't mean because of the sex or violence or whatever, I'm just saying the movie itself sucks. It's a thinly veiled rip-off of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," based on the same killer that inspired that movie, and tries to ape that movie's darkly comedic style but produces none of the same results. It shifts in tone from comedic to horrific so quickly that it's more Herschell Gordon Lewis than Tobe Hooper.
This movie was the most unintentionally hilarious thing I ever saw. From Ezra telling people multiple times that he was storing bodies in his house with noone thinking he was serious, to the scene where he's playing the gramaphone and wailing while wearing the remains of a corpse, there were so many moments I just had a good chuckle.
Roberts Blossom was a truly amazing actor and he delivers a brilliant, utterly convincing performance in the vastly underrated and almost completely overlooked masterpiece of horror. Not to be missed!
I agree...and today's audiences feel THEY'VE got something with Orphan, Hostel, the SAW movies/series, and/or these HORRENDOUS "looking to make some quick ca$h" horror re-makes!
@AngelofAnguish Because the horror genre is back in vogue with the teenage crowd once again, just like it was back in the 80's. It's just a damn shame that most horror films suck so badly these days.
Totally with alot of you on this movie, it is much more accurate than TCM, Ed Gein, or Psycho. Keep in mind he was more a necrophiliac/graverobber than say serial murderer a la Jeffery Dahmer or Gacy.
Still check this one out, I picked it up on a whim and was truly shocked-it has that great element-ATMOSPHERE that todays horror films sorely lack.
This IS the authentic trailer that played in grindhouses/drive-ins back in the day-there are others on Utube.
In the scene where the girl runs out of the house and into the truck w/Ezra chasing her-he's wearing the skin and hair of one of his victims like a suit! Ughh-truly a sick and disturbing scene. Excellent film about Ed Gein however, much more accurate as to what really happened than Psycho or TCM
i don't know why Hollywood doesn't just straight up come out with the true story of Ed Gein. Just hire some famous actors in a remote area in the US and make the damn movie already. Instead we got all the "Wannabe" films.
I will take this over HOLLYWOOD shit any day of the week. I can see it now ED GEIN the true story starring Tom Cruise-Jessica Alba-Samuel (I HAVE TO BE IN EVERY GOD DAMN MOVIE) Jackson and Kevin Costner as the Mayor
@AngelofAnguish Indeed I have – I've got the DVD. Anything is worth watching if Steve Railsback's in it, but it is an especially excellent performance from both him and Snodgress :D
This looks disturbing

@bangrush it's not a clone, they were separately produced at the same time.

@bangrush The texas chainsaw massacre is actually based on Ed Gein, the movie Deranged is also based on Ed Gein.

@AngelofAnguish You said it man! Now THIS is REAL HORROR! Hopefully they won't remake this classic gem.

Speaking of re-makes, why is the movie business ONLY re-making HORROR movies-and NOT OTHER genres?
