Having owned both cars I thought the clio had a better interior. Really comfy and easy to drive on b roads. Type R has an epic engine but looks like a mini people carrier. Now own an FN2 and its rubbish. Trading it in for a clio cup 200. I drive regular on tracks and have raced karts so please dont think im a 10 year old american kid posting shit in his basement. I prefer the renault because it suits my driving style. But the civic is the better car for reliability. Cant win everything.

@dilawer321 Check its had the aux belt changed and got full service history. When test driving it stick it in third and lift your foot up and down on the clutch. Dont worry if you hear a loud bang. Its just the exhaust trying to come through the floor can be easily fixed with new mounts and bushes. Check all electrics work. Check xenons work auto lights and tap your finger on the sensor on front window to make sure auto wipers work. Have a look on the clio forum for known faults.

In the United States it only has 160 Bhp. It's sort of a downer for the US. Hopefully the US regulations ease up and we stop getting shafted with cars.

thats a big problem with the clio`s.... i had a 172... terrible ratio`s from the gearbox... bad synchro`s too.... grated in 3rd gear all the time... bad electrical problems.... but none the less still a good hot hatch... good fun.... but not as good as a ep3, thats what i ended up changing it for....
EK9 Type-R would rip apart a Clio Williams but thats because the EK9 is alot newer and powerful so you cant compare them.
EK9 was launched in 1998 while the Williams was launched in 1992 so you should compare it against EG6 Civic VTI (158) Bhp which wasnt launched too long after.
but both are old,dated and both are icons for there marque.
the williams has more torque than the civic so its a fair comparisan,plus the clio has a bigger engine

I actually have a 2002 type r. It's so much better of an ep2 than the american version of the "si" it's got the 197hp k20a4 thats in the new si's. And it has 5 lug and a six speed. but theres no sunroof. But it's a great car. I wish I could drive a clio so I know which one is a better car.

5th gear is much better than top gear. the guys at 5th gear can actually drive and not just go straight on a runway (and still lose it lol). only reason for liking top gear would be for the exotics they show that i will never see in real life. 5th Gear FTW!!
the track they use with the stig is looser (less tight) than this one.. the focus has lots more power so it will be better on a bigger track. the TypeR will be better on a tighter track..
Not really, the focus only has about 15hp more, which tbh, aint that much. Still love them both though (hopeing to get myself one of them at somepoint next year)

EK9 was launched in 1998 while the Williams was launched in 1992 so you should compare it against EG6 Civic VTI (158) Bhp which wasnt launched too long after.

the williams has more torque than the civic so its a fair comparisan,plus the clio has a bigger engine
i see what you mean by comparing age but i think the williams is my favourite clio and the ek9 is my favourite civic so its a good comparisan for me anyway...

I prefer the EP3 Type R anyway, even if it had lost, the Clio 182 is a great car too though, but reliability wise its awful....

A normal Clio is nothing like the 182. Trust me it takes alot of experience to realize the potential of those cars. Both great cars but i would never buy a french performance car.

Yeah i get you. Both are fun. I think the one I drove was just the sport. It was fun, but as for the comparison scene here. Im with you Civic type R. I dont think french performance carsa are all that bad. But I like Japanese more.

Civic Type R easy, better top speed, stronger gearbox, better driving position, better built, more reliable, better resale value, nicer engine... Don't get me wrong the Clio is a nice car, but the Civic's just nicer lol.

ive had 2 renault clio 182 then i bought a civic type-r.... i had it for a year and ive just bought another 182, much better than the type-r, more fun to drive and much more to play with inside than the type-r... the only good thing that the type-r has on the 182 is nice seats... 182 any day !!!!!!

I actually have a 2002 type r. It's so much better of an ep2 than the american version of the "si" it's got the 197hp k20a4 thats in the new si's. And it has 5 lug and a six speed. but theres no sunroof. But it's a great car. I wish I could drive a clio so I know which one is a better car.

5th gear is much better than top gear. the guys at 5th gear can actually drive and not just go straight on a runway (and still lose it lol). only reason for liking top gear would be for the exotics they show that i will never see in real life. 5th Gear FTW!!

the track they use with the stig is looser (less tight) than this one.. the focus has lots more power so it will be better on a bigger track. the TypeR will be better on a tighter track..

Not really, the focus only has about 15hp more, which tbh, aint that much. Still love them both though (hopeing to get myself one of them at somepoint next year)

intresting, he says the focus rs is slower then the civic however in top gear the stig drove both cars and showed that the focus was much faster. oh well, civic still looks the part.

At the end of the day the type r is a lil quicker than the clio look at all the mods you can do to the Type R compared to the clio and the other down fall to the clio is that its french and crap and the Type R is Jap which will run forever
