I have been out for the last 2 days and I cannot find chanterelles! Do you know a place in Kitsap county to try? i spent all day today in Illahee Preserve and there aren't any. Am I too early? too late? Its driving me nuts!!!! Thanks. :)
@msdksl - I have not done much, if any picking, in Kitsap County, so I don't have any suggestions. I do know a couple of things though. 1). The season is very late this year and although they are out there you might have better luck in a week or so. 2). I have heard some good reports from Clallam County, so you might think about headed up there for a day to look around. Lot's of possibilities. 3). Don't give up :). Good luck.
@UlyssesReturns thanks much! I was wondering if the season is late. I was assuming it probably was because blackberries and everything else is. I'm glad I'm not too late and thanks a million for the info. Illahee seems ideal so I'll check back after the next big rain. Cheers!
I'd like to know what type of forest you're looking in...what types of trees are associated with Chanterelles? I live in wisconsin and have probably seen them but haven't paid too much attention. Looks like this current video was shot in the exact same spot as the last one, eh? :)
@Nelstrodomous Yep. Same spot. It's been pretty good to me. Ths year however I've vowed to widen my search. I wish I knew more about trees, I'm working on it. The chanterelles I'm finding are in pine forests, with few ferns, lots of salel and light moss on the ground. Too many pine needles on the ground is not a good thing. Others, might have a few different suggestions, but I've always had luck in these conditions. Good luck. :-)
what kind of wild mushrooms can I eat in south florida, and are there ones that LOOK like the kind I can eat but are poisonous?
