  • yes. change it. as far as wear, yes the chain is too loose, and i can see the wear on the gear teeth. anytime you change the chain, always change the gears too. would you change a clutch without changing the pressure plate and throw out barring? no you change it all at the same time.

  • just load the gasket with RTV and carefully reassemble everything.

  • you have the job halfway finished....don't be a dick !!!... change the chain and sprockets now!!!

  • if u have the new parts put all of hem on and id say a bit too mutch slak but now youve gone this far it is always better to change all of it and try to wriggle the cogs?.wen u can move it the bearings are gone chains have to have some movement too tyt aand the chain could brake to loose and it could run off even snap.

  • & qomo se repara?

  • Yeah you need a gear and chain

  • Get a gear drive. It is adjustable somewhat, but not sloppy.

  • did you have to drop the oil pan

  • this is super old video and already fix and you need a new one because one side loose is bad enough.

  • There should be no slop in the timing chain.

  • you need to chang it out now be for you jump time chang your oil and put a full oil pan gasket on

  • What kind of timing gaskets did you use?

  • man just go ahead and replace it..get something better!! and the gasket cut the end's off the oil pan they have a kit for the timing chain cover. good luck man !

  • haha do you live in SanAndreas?

  • replace it! or else the timing chain will jump time! and thus wind up up with a bigger repair bill THERE SHOULD BE ZERO SLACK! F.Y.I!

  • i got a question i have a 5.0 93 just got ford racing double roller gears and chain it has different degrees of timing i building the engine to be a good street performance engine does anyone know whats good also im using the e303 cam anyone know whats good?

  • god oh mighty the crankshaft where the balancer came off looks like shit i dont see you could have got the harmonic balancer over that washer and bolt not possible

as for the chevy nuts here i love fords old model 67-72 and chevy trucks with a 283 hunp heads from a 327 hooked to a granny tranny so lighten up

  • you getting arrested man?

  • ease off on the coke mate your nose sounds like its fuked lol,,,

  • @kempouk lol

  • The cam gear is toast... replace the engine with a 350 Chevy engine

  • If you've already got a new timing gear/chain set you might as well put it on.

  • save 100$ buy geardrive timing set

  • @RedResurrections not good for certain setups

  • what is it with that stud? every video ive seen has the same stud broken. even on my bronco had the same one broken. i had to drill it out. the timing chain on my bronco has more slack than that. replacing it soon.

  • that chains a slacker! :)

  • good video man helps others who havn't done it before. Yes you need to replace all gaskets, your missing teeth on both gears, so those need to be replaced. Do not just use just RTV get new gaskets lightly coat both sides let it get tacky. Also you will get a lower rubber seal for the oil pan lip. DO not coat this with RTV it will seal on its own. However it does need a little RTV in the upper corners where the quark gaskets touch it! great video man good luck.

  • after a while the chain ets stretched so its a good idea to replace the whole application

  • the timming chain is to loose cuz your teeth on your cam gear are bad its only 15 dollars for that timing set and that gasket needs to be replaced you never wanna use a used gasket

  • BUY A CHEVY DUMMY

  • @TAKE2TOKES CHEVY IS A PEACE OF SHIT

  • @KLONIME1001

YOUR NAME MUST BE CHEVY THEN...

  • thats not a bad idea to make a video like that and it helped me too because i have reason to believe my timing chain on my mustang has broke. now i know for sure that it is.

  • That cam gear is in terrible shape.. That too much slack on the chain. Its cheap insurance just to replace them when you got it apart this far folks...

  • I have the exact same problem even the same stud. Did you have to change the lower gasket? or did you just put silicone on it? I triyed to weld a nut on the top of the broken strud, but my welder was to weak. So I'm afraid I'm gonna do the same you did. Thanks.

  • too much slack

  • YES

  • bad definetly bad thats an aftermarket timing chain and the outer portion of the teeth for the upper gear have been ground down its spost to look more like the lower gear on the teeth

  • yes you need a new one :)

  • Oh BTW I laughed when you complaned about the Hamonic Balancer.

Get the book "How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines " by Tom Monroe, because thats EXACTLY what the book told you to do!!!

Don't give up, I always say " You can't learn it, if you don't do it, personal experience is the best experience" Next time you'll do it, you'll do it faster.

  • If you turn the crankshaft counter-clockwise, then wiggle the slack on right side (because left side will be tight). IF it exceeds 1/2 and inch slack, replace it.

If it was my car and I already have the timming chain and sprocket I'd change it out..

You have to put them on the same time. If the crankshaft rod is putting the new gear in a bind, get some scotch brite or sand paper and sand it down a little and clean it, then put oil on it.

  • i was likee new

  • This may be to late but I tdoes look like the chain has stretched a little bit. The way I see hey your already into it that far. The timing chain isn't that expensive. Go ahead and replace it. The gasket.....That should be the front main seal. You should be able to buy that gasket by it's self (I'm a chevy guy and I don't know if it is the same for Fords.) but make sure you clean out and around the gasket area really good and but some blue sealent on the corners where the older gasket.

  • Timing chains usually last the life of the motor. If you have to replace the timing chain you should only have to replace the chain and not the gears. Also the slack you are seeing is the timing off, but engines that have a timing chain also have automatic self timing so drive the car for 30 miles or more to allow the computer to recognize the timing issue and it will self adjust

  • I realise now that I had to take out the balancer bolt in order to get the washer off. My mistake.
