Im looking into buying a new laptop here soon....and i saw this....this would be the absolute most expenisve id go...but would this laptop be okay for someone who is going to do periodic gaming..not as a full gaming console...but someone who also streams alot of videos, music, and does alot of multitasking?
wow i have the same alienware as you!!! everything the same..except for...your GHz is 3.2 while mine is 2.4...and you post a tutorial on how to overclock the alienware m17x-r2? i'm still a kid so i dont really know what to do =/
i have an alienware aurora(Desktop) with 1792 mb dual gtx 260 sli graphics card and my brother is going to buy a laptop alienware m17x and they are offering him a 1.5gb dual gtx 460m sli graphics card
Do you think that 1.5gb 460m is better than 1792mb gtx 260 ??
hey man that blu ray burner... would i be able to put in a game disc in andwould work?? because if not where the hell do i put in a game disc?? its the only drive in the laptop please tell me because im comming back from the holidays in 4 days and alienware m17x is waiting for me at home so i hope i will be able to play games hah so please answer ASAP
i'm considering whether single GTX 580M will be enough? like SLi is much more expensive (in M18x) but the performance increase doesn't worht the money??
@TheBloodStainedMask The glare doesn't bother me, but may bother some people especially in bright light or outside. Is it worth it? Well, that I can't answer. Everyone has a reason for buying a laptop, and if the specific computer achieves your goals, then it's worth it. Personally you can build better for less money, but if you want the looks and the brand as well, that costs extra.
@minetech400 Yep they do a great job at gaming. I am not as impressed with the R3, but we'll see what they can bring to the table, maybe the next version will have dual GPU's again. :-)
@deathborne25 Sensei? I think I like that. Haha... Well, I would say it would be able to handle most games at a reasonable setting - video wise. For reference, I was able to squeeze out a peak 24 fps from Crysis 2 Demo on my R2 with all the settings maxed out. Given the fact that the R3 has only one GPU, where as the R2 had 2 in crossfire, (which may have changed by now) I would say it would not perform quite as well. But there are a lot of variables. SSD, Memory, SLI/X-Fire, etc.
@cretin509 Nice, welcome to the club ;-) Yeah it's definitely a heavy machine, but it's great for mobile gaming. Even if it is slightly overpriced. Enjoy it!
@pmoua4o8 It's very well worth it if you need a considerable amount of power for a mobile platform and you move around quite a bit. Also, it doesn't come with a towel, but I suggest you buy one so that your neighbours' drool will be easier to deal with. ;-) Hope you enjoy it, let me know when you get it, always interested to hear others' opinions. =)
@tomstechca i just got mine last night and it is such an amazing machine. i read from other reviews that it has a lot of flex but i didn't see any flex on mine unless your pressing the keys very hard. nothing else much to say about it but it's a beast. thanks for the review on this because the purchase was worth it like you said.
@TheVishnupankaj Hehe good question. Well, with your standard 6 cell battery it should last you 2.5 hours or so. That's during gaming. On the extended 9 cell battery which I got with my M17x, you should expect game time approaching the 4 hour mark. Of course there are a lot of variables here, including one people may not even think of - clean power. A good quality surge protector can provide clean power to your electronics, improving in many ways the way they work and how durable they will be.
@BovineDiozzi The R2 I received was offered with a 740QM as well as a 920XM when I placed my order. Also, I live in Canada, so I ordered from dell.ca, instead of its American counterpart. What do you mean by speccing it wrong? Thanks for watching!

Two questions i would like you to answer:
Does the glare on the screen effect use enough for it to be considered annoying?
Is it worth its money because it costs quite a bit :S ?

@tomstechca I have a question sensei, would the R3 be able to handle most games maxed out? Or is this out of your knowledge?

@tomstechca Thank you sensei. I actually just want to play games at reasonable frame rates, at high settings anyway.
