im about to buy a drz400 myself and im going to install hids on it but i was wondering if the bike uses 2 seperate bulbs of high and low or is it just one? and does your hid have an hid lo and hid high or hid lo and halogen high?
The H4 Hi/Lo HID bulbs come with a chrome cover that covers about half of the bulb. For a car it may be wise to leave it on because it'll help to prevent blinding people. From what I've read, the higher the color temp, the less light the bulbs put out. As the bulbs age, they move to a higher color temp. Buying the 8000k bulb is like buying an old 4300k bulb. I'm not an expert, that's just from what I've read. You can find info online. :)
I bought a dual HID High-beam/Low-beam kit off of eekbay. Lot's of them on there. If you do get a kit, get the 4300 color temp if you can. Better bulb... if it's a real 4300 temp. Make sure it's the HID bulb that acts on a relay to change the position of the bulb. This way the bulb always stays on (only 35watts, 3 times as bright as a regular bulb). Also, remove the cover off of the bulb. I found the cover, which is on in the video, restricts too much light.
What do you mean by removing the cover... I really want a set of these for my car, and I take H4's so i'd need the hi/lo kit... Also, i wanted to get the 8000k kit instead.
where did you place the ballast?

It would be really helpful if you could do a comparison of the two lights outside at night to show how far down the road the HID casts its light.
