Most people don't realize just how strenuous the life of a SAR K9 is, especially a USAR K9. They're athletes who put themselves in danger on a daily basis, & are tough on their bodies. USAR K9s don't live the long lives of a pampered housepet. I am not denying that there were things there that contributed to illnesses, however it had been 6 years since then for this story. I'm not surprised that 1/3 died by '07; they age prematurely anyway. My 7YO K9 did; he's retired & had no HazMat exposures.
