The knower of the nectar-ocean of all the śāstra-s, the teacher of the upaniṣadic treasure, I meditate in my heart on your lotus feet; be thou my refuge, O preceptor Śaṁkara. (Totakashtakam 1, Translated by Ramesh Krishnamurthy)
"When limbs are weak and hair become grey, doddering, old and toothless too. The decrepit moves with help of a walking-stick. (Even then) Man never gives up disires."
“When limbs are weak and hair become grey… Doddering, old and toothless too… The decrepit moves with help of a walking-stick. (Even then) Man never gives up disires.”
He is telling his followers that the supreme god is Lord Krishna and just worship him!Iinstead of wasting time in this word jugglery which is not going to lead to anything. God is not impersonal but he is a supreme person with all the opuleneces. Only the intelligent followers of Sankaracharya understood this teaching.
there have been numerours refrences in our holy books, that the holy trinity combine to make a brahman. there is no one god above another. then if god has said this, why are we fighting which god is better. if it werent for brahma we wouldnt have been born, if it werent for vishnu we wouldnt know how to survive, and it if werent for shiva there would be no death on this earth making life incomplete. they all waork as equal, as each god is important to one another for our good being. y we fight?
For all the people who're exchanging texts on which deity is more powerful, I'll just say that you're missing the entire message of BhajaGovinda with this argument... Just like debating on grammar gets us nowhere, debating on different schools of thought too wont get us liberation...
In one hymn, shankaracharya says, different bhaktas do different things for God, some grow their hair, some shave their head, some wear specific clothes, but they all try to search for the same God!
princegoutham - first learn to write proper English. I have not referredf to RIGVEDA - It has been posted by rkan10. You and Bhsiman are fanatics who belittles, Sanskrit, LORD VISHNU, LORD KRISHNA, LORD RAMA -you are a joke yaar. Insult to society.
Shiva is One the true form who was worshipped from the beginning of mankind Even Demi Gods like Krishna ,Rama and many more worshipped him on the earth He is One in Many and there is None next to him Lord Shiva changes his forms. When HE is the reason behind the creation then HE is called Lord Brahma, when HE takes care then HE is called Lord Vishnu & when HE destroys only due to the naked Truth then HE is called LORD SHIVA..Satyam Shivam Sundaram..Everyone loves HIM..just needs to be recognized.
Advaitham is hinduism's essence.Thats the summary of our vedas. Sankara's techings is perfect to all hindus.Anyone is unhappy??? text me..we will debate.
I guess adi sankara was wrong. He doesnt know the importance of grammar. Sanskrit is based on rich grammar. hindu people say world is just a vibration of the supreme god. Do grammar and pronunciation of the mantras and shlokas are equally important.
People make mistakes, adi sankara is no exception.
I agree with Justprams. A perfect-pronunciated mantra without devotion. But if the heart is opened, then the sound, the vibration is spontaneously perfect.
he is emphasizing the importance of bhakti (devotion) to God over devotion to grammar and linguistics. reciting slokas with excellent pronunciation but without devotion is futile. that's what he's trying to convey.
hiding under a cot anyone can say anything. come outside and confront adi sankara's teachings. and before coming out pls delete all your pizza and sex videos or else people may think u are a great hypocrite bhogi instead of a great yogi :) Salutations to Adi Sankara. OM
if you are very convinced he was wrong why don't u stop hiding under a cot and come outside and then confront his teachings. but before u come out, pls delete all ur sex videos from favourites or else people may think ur a great hypocrite bhogi instead of a great yogi which u falsely claim :). OM
Sankara's works are all grammatically and poetically rich & eloquent. He is a master grammarian. All he is saying is,Grammar is not going to make you realize the eternal truth, and don't let it distract you from the real goal.Grammar is beautiful like math. You would not expect anything less from something that came from Lord Siva's Damarukh. No body can dare dispute its importance. But sankara is beyond everything. The orange clad, lion hearted Advaitin sannyasin is one without a second.
Adi shankaracharya was himself a great scholar, grammarian and jnani(enlightened).
In this context he sang this keeping the old teacher in view who was spending all his time in merely repeating the vyakarana sutras(Grammar statements) and not his disciples or any students.
These are metaphors, Katy. Those days ppl spoke little not chatter like we do. One meaning I take away is this: This whole life is a means to an end, Bhagawan. The pains and sorrows, joys and happiness of life are akin to grammar rules; they only enable creating a structure to life. So the knowledge of physics or where fork should be placed and how a napkin is to be folded are like grammar rules, ok from vyavaharik standpoint, but should not cloud our focus.
@katy3683 I THINK U HAVE NO RIGHT TO SPEAK SOMETHING ABOUT HIM. EVEN THOUGH HE IS WRONG THERE IS SOME REASON BEHIND IT.ND FOR YOUR KIND INFORMATION YOU DONT POCESS EVEN A MELLIMETER OF KNOWLEDGE WHAT HE HAD. SO DONT COMMENT WHATEVER U GET IT IN UR MOUTH. ND CAN U TELL WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHITA AND CHINTA? IF U DONT MIND PLZ DO REPLY
@katy3683 If Sri Adi Shankara is wrong, then the Upanishads are wrong, the Vedas are wrong and the whole of Hinduism is wrong.. And when it is so, Gita is wrong. Then which mantras are we talking about?
Thanks for uploading this master piece. This film is produced by National Film Division Corporation and directed by late G V Iyer. This is the first film made in sanskrit. AdiShankara the highest intelluctual and his nobel works are misinterpreted verymuch. He is that device person who reunited INDIA. The CD's can be bought in major music shops but its mostly available in Hindi Dubbed version.
This is indeed the first time I've ever heard actual conversational dialogue in Sanskrit. Usually Sanskrit is used only for prose and poetry, but this is indeed interesting. What a beautiful mind Shankaracharya was.
I have seen this movie in DD National Channel 15 years ago as Sunday Afternoon Movie. A great movie produced by Dr. T. Subbirami Reddy, MP. It is the only movie made in Sanskrit. I am not able to find this movie CD anywhere. Can anybody help me in getting the same?

@katy3683 while mantras and shlokas are important, understanding them for grammar and not for the supreme god is useless.
