As a genuine comic fan, this is my favorite Batman flick. I hate how fans of the newer movies are just totally disrespecting every little aspect of this film. Jack actually played the Joker from the comics, & frankly I thought Keaton gave Bruce/Batman a lot of charisma. And I'll always appreciate Burton's effort to stay as true to the source material as possible, & I think he did a terrific job balancing fantasy & reality.
really i wish i could have seen ledger work with this script because i like the gadgets and practical jokes in this version it would have been awesome to see
@heelsoverhead0280 Dark Knight Joke no questions. Hes younger, bigger, stronger and can scrap. Was able to over power & intimidate anyone except Batman. Slammed a gangsters head on a pencil killing him. Killed an under boss with a knife after telling him a chilling made up story about his scars. Almost killed an old man. Almost killed Rachel. Attempted to murder Gordon. Killed cop at close range with shot gun. Over powered cop in interrogation room. DK Joker would cut Burtons Joker a new smile.
burton's movies are way better than nolan's.. Nolan is a good director himself but he is incapable of directing mythical comics like that. I hope he doesnt throw shit in man of steel
@TurkicTr The reason Burtons better at making movies that deal with fantasy and mythical creatures is because he came from Disney! lol He was one of the top artist in the Disney movie The Black Cauldron. Most of his movies are gothic, creepy, and weird. While Nolons movies are real world based. The reason WB begged Nolon to do the Batman reboot is because they wanted it real based. Notice after Batman Begins all comic book movies are going with this style. Plus Nolon got better Imagination.
@TurkicTr I completely agree w/ you. I wouldn't worry too much about Man of Steel, all Nolan really did was help pitch the story to WB. He has virtually no involvement w/ the film, they only attached his name to the project because they know what'll bring success at the box office. Can't wait to see a Batman reboot that isn't afraid to keep the fantastical elements from the comics.
I personally think Heath Ledger did a better Joker. He just had that more derranged psychopath feel to him, and those are my favourite characters. But I do enjoy Jack's Joker, although I think he was more of a psychopath in Shining :3
@videogamegenius: I'm still laughing just thinking about it and all the other great Nicholson 'Joker' you showed. I can only imagine (knowing Jack Nicholson), how much of his portrayal was actually ad lib not scripted. Just perfection. ~ Lady 'E'
Jack did a great job as The Joker but to say that he was better than Heath is cleary the stupidest thing ever. I love both Nolan and Burtons Batman's but the fact that Burton made The Joker the one who Killed Bruces parents was sooooooo fucking dumb. And the fact that he wasn't even close as menacing as Heath was makes his performance not as good as Heaths
Guys guys guys. Both jack nicholson and health ledger make excelent jokers except one is done comically and the other is done seriously, and i think its a little harder to do a dark serious joker while providing excellent inside into his dark past. Heath Ledger in my opinion shows better raw talent in the Dark Knight. But Jack Nicholson still does a great job. There is no comparison between Batmans though. Michael Keaton is a thousand times better than the new incoherent one.
Burton cast keaton as he realised that batman doesn't need to be super hench, just average build, the whole point is that behind the mask he is a beast
i think val kilmer's bruce wayne and michael keaton's batman is the best combination for the character of bruce wayne/batman, both are imo the best depictations of the two halves of the character
The biggest mistake in this franchise was not continuing the third and fourth movie with Keaton as Batman . Just having Keaton in Forever would have made it better and had Keaton been in Batman and Robin and that movie had a better story, Keaton against Arnold could have been a blockbuster.
Thanks Hollywood, Warner Brother, and Joel Schumacher for screwing up what could have been an epic 4th movie
I don't get it. Nicholson took some of Romero's farce; Hamilton drew obvious inspiration from Nicholson; Ledger went a different way, but I'm SURE he reviewed JN & MH's work to gain perspective. There is no "Better" or "Worse" here; it's different interpretations on a theme. 2 me, JN is THE top; he got that crazy, maniacal-yet-funny character so well it inspired the longest running version (Hamil's). Ledger is more 'deadly psycho' than 'crazed prankster', but, for HIS film, it was superbly done
hate to interject politics here, but Im laughing my ass off thinking..."does Commissioner Gordon now realize he must replace ALL those batman lightbulbs with energy efficent ones beginning January?" :)
I just realized something--Batman did not intend on killing the Joker. Joker could have easily jumped off of the lander and landed safely back onto the balcony as soon as the grappling hook made it's noise. It was Joker who killed himself--he let his arrogance and "godliness" get in the way of common sense. Batman only intended on Joker to stay on the balcony so that there would be time enough for him to be taken to the authorities.
I loved this as a kid. I would forgive all its shortcommings if only they didnt add that stupid, stupid twist where it turns out The Joker killed Bruce Waynes parents instead of a random mugger. It ruins Batman's motivation as a dark hero. He's more a murderering ani-hero out for revenge in this movie.
This had probably the best ending to a Batman movie ever.. Definately on par with The Dark Knight's ending, even though The Dark Knight came years later, after this..
Tim Burton and Michael eaton-pure genious. Nolan and bale-pure sadness. Keaton made you proud of Batman...a real American hero. I even felt patriotic at the ending scene. At the end of Nolan;s films I feel depressed
@Johnlindsey289 you know I have to admit I am not a die hard fan, however that said I follow the storyline and love the films, that is i LOVED the films.I agree, Nolan took batman on a totally different road than Burton. outlaw? yes, for sure. a necessary evil almost. in the Burton films you always knew where batman stood and his motives. For me, Batman films ended with the last Burton film, and frankly even more so when Keaton left. Animated...not a fan.
But did you ever watched the animated show as a kid? unique yet adult animated take on Batman don't you think and great casting for the voices don't you think? i mean Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamil as Joker, Richard "Bull" Moll as Two-Face/Harvey Dent, Andrienne Barbeau as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Paul Williams as Penguin and others were great voice casting. Loved it since i was 11 when it aired and watched it religiously.
@Johnlindsey289 you know i vaguely remember the show, but again in al things I was always more into live action films. Im 28, so i grew up with batman of the keaton variety, as well as Ghostbusters and TMNT. contrast: i loved TMNT (1988) series. I loved the first 2 films. ANd as an adult I was highly disappointed in the newer TMNT PC generated film. depends. but batman for me, live action
Have you read the comics as a kid? i did since i was 8 thanks to the film as i had the merchandise to this movie as a kid including the VHS movie and NES game in my christmas stocking that year and ate the cereal to having the Taco Bell cups, remember those? did you watched the 60's show as a kid too? and do you think Nicholson here was as good as Ledger, Caesar Romero and Mark Hamil? Nolan's movie did saved the series after Schumacher killed it off.
@Johnlindsey289 never read the comics. never into them. I have to say Nicholson is the best joker, overall. However Ledger had a great interpretation as well. so there, im mixed. I love both. But batman....Keaton only. bale is a nightmare and that voice...yeah I remember the cups. But mostly from early films, like Batman returns and forever. Id say only the joker is good (ledger) out of the new films.
And do you think Ann Hathaway will make a good catwoman? i think she might be as good as Michelle Pfefier, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether from the 60's movie and Andrienne Barbeau on the animated show. What did you think of Kevin Conroy as Batman and Richard "Bull on NightCourt" Moll as the voice of Two-Face?
@Johnlindsey289 not to sound sexist, but frankly Catwoman is not important to me as much as the guys :) i loved Pheifer (?) in Returns. honestly, dont remember too much from the animated
What about the 60's show? i use to watch that when i was 7 and 8 on reruns on my local fox station. That was a fun show and the 1966 movie was pure comedy dynamite.

This movie is better than the dark knight due to the subtleties. That's not to say that Dark Knight is a bad film, I love both but I think Batman's a little better. Keaton > Bale however Ledger > Nicholson. I agree with NC
Respond to this video... Youre one of those tenagers that like this better than TDK because its cool to think that way and say its overrated. . Guess what, kiddo? I was there when Batman 89 came out and before Nolan's Batman came out, Batman '89 was one of the most annoyingly overrated movies ever
@Baltsar I always found that scene very odd and the funny thing is that in real life they are very very good friends. Like best friends and Jack wanted him to play that specific role.
@THECUPCAKESUGARPIE Thanks a lot man I went in order and had to chose the best scenes. There are still some that didn't make it due to the 15 min mark but I had to have the joker at the end lol. Thanks
We are doing a stop motion animation film called Tim. The movie is a stop motion animation film that is dedicated to Tim Burton and has Sir Christopher Lee as the narrator. Search the directors name Brian Joseph Ochab to find the video.
the only true joker , is the joker in the comic books, the rest is cheap shit... :P

@HarshPTHESNAKEFIST I also too LOVE that part I love the look, the speed and the noise of that whole scene. How bad ass was the actual car?

@angyman666 Hey thanks a lot.

This movie is better than the dark knight due to the subtleties. That's not to say that Dark Knight is a bad film, I love both but I think Batman's a little better. Keaton > Bale however Ledger > Nicholson. I agree with NC

@Yugioh257 agree with you totally

Respond to this video... Youre one of those tenagers that like this better than TDK because its cool to think that way and say its overrated. . Guess what, kiddo? I was there when Batman 89 came out and before Nolan's Batman came out, Batman '89 was one of the most annoyingly overrated movies ever

@KevsHardLemonade Your logic is just...wow.

@ChaosTheory0 You just said it. I actually have logic. I dont base things on teen angst.

What about Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil?
Johnlindsey289 3 months ago
@Johnlindsey289 Conroy and Hamil own Keaton & Nicholson. Bar none Conroy's the best Batman

@2:51 joker showing some real man-love. Love it!
Baltsar 9 months ago
@Baltsar I always found that scene very odd and the funny thing is that in real life they are very very good friends. Like best friends and Jack wanted him to play that specific role.

@THECUPCAKESUGARPIE Thanks a lot man I went in order and had to chose the best scenes. There are still some that didn't make it due to the 15 min mark but I had to have the joker at the end lol. Thanks

0:35 Batman kills for the first time. (Or at least I think. He completely hangs the guy so it would only make sense.)

We are doing a stop motion animation film called Tim. The movie is a stop motion animation film that is dedicated to Tim Burton and has Sir Christopher Lee as the narrator. Search the directors name Brian Joseph Ochab to find the video.
