My brother is deaf and I am trying to figure out how to add this cc to my videos. There is no device for deaf people to use that allows them to watch these videos. The videos have to be made with cc. How did you do it? I used an app through google called caption tube.appspot.com But, I can't get my computer to open the srt file.
I am deaf and I hear the sounds because I have it set up to stereo sound to increase volume but I cannot follow the words without closed captioned, I have to read and it would be wonderful and helpful if EVERYONE would add the closed captioned to their videos and music for us deaf/hard of hearing ppl!
I know some people who are doing this, and it's quite effective. Adding them for your own language is pretty straightforward, but if you want to offer other languages, then you'd better be multilingual, or know someone who is. Don't use the Google translator, unless you're doing a random comedy that no-one should understand anyway. LOL
Going to go now and see how it works with Japanese. Which will probably be a major challenge for the software. Even my girlfriend says she has difficulty catching some of what the fellow in my "Buffalo Cart Serenade" vid is saying.
I thought you had to upload captions in each language? They really do it automatically?
Anyway, my prediction is that the 2015 version of YouTube will auto transcribe the video & then translate it to all of the different languages for you. All the technology is there, why not? They just need to implement it. Google, are you listening? Of course you are, chop chop. :)
Yeah apparently the translation occurs in the background from the original language, the feedback so far is pretty positive. The translation has been close except for a few colloquialisms that I've used in my video like "ready to rock and roll" doesn't translate well.
We're hard-of-hearing but can hear what people are saying (usually) though it's muddled. We read lips. Sometimes, though, the video quality is so poor that we have to just not watch because it sounds a lot like the teacher from the Peanuts cartoons and facial expressions. :-P We're interested to see how the CC will work out on YouTube!
Thanks. So I assume you can see the close captioning OK I put on this video. I'm curious if people from another country are able to choose their language and how the translation goes.
I can't seem to find the CC option here. I did look. But we're tired so maybe it's just blatantly obvious and I'm too exhausted to notice something right in front of us. Wouldn't be the first time. :-P
dude why do you have a Cowboyhat?

It is crazy that you are talking about closed captions but you did not include it in your video. Very bad!

@near124 Amen!! There's a whole new world for deaf internet users if only everything were captioned.

I'd like the CC to play automatically.

Interesting - I didn't realize that feature was available.
So, if you add closed captions to your vlog, will it be visible to all viewers, or do each of us get to turn CC on or off in our preferences?

It's an option when viewing, in the lower right hand corner of the video as it plays.

Oh, ... and I do not see a closed caption option on this video (???)
opendoor1983 2 years ago
It's on the little up arrow at the far right, bottom of the screen. It works, very cool, if you need it.

kudos to you for this information!!

My Dad could read lips really well.

I would appreciate closed caption as my father was deaf.
He's dead now but he could have used that.

great innovation. I'm already thinking of ways to use it for comic purposes because I'm basicly shallow and incapable of empathy.

Cool!
Thanks for the heads up.

Ahh. I see. I have to input the text myself. That is going to take a bit of effort. :)
Anyway, will play with it and see.

some people like to slur their words, but would we have to say every word correctly and clearly like you Tim?
miker555 2 years ago
No because you actually create the original file in text. it's the text that get's translated, not what you are saying in your video.

hi,
i am danish and i tried to use the translate it to danish, and the translation was pretty much perfect, even the grammar seem to be in order.
so if this is the general result of translating the cc, it is a pretty cool tool that they have implemented there.
love your videos, just noticed that you were back on you tube, god, I am not paying much notice to anything ;D
