if you've never driven/ridden before, then the obvious answer is a car. It's hard enough to learn the rules of the road with a car, I wouldn't add in the nuisance of a motorcycle to it. Drive a car, it's easy. Wait a bit and meanwhile study the road till you're ready
who cares if you get a motorcycle when you 16 If it rains just use your parents car its not that hard and plus you get to drive a car and ride a motorcycle instead of getting a car and having to wait a couple of years till you can get a motorcycle so everybody wins:)
Great...A 1.0 1992 Ford Fiesta cost £5000 ($8500) to insure a year over here in the UK - and that was my cheapest possible quote. A motorcycle costs £300 (thats third party fire and theft aswell) - there's just the tiny fact that stupid posh bimbo 17 year old will run you over with there 2009 Honda Civic, "There Daddy" bought them one day. Makes me Sick!
I have a question for you steelhorse, should i start with a dual bike or single cylinder engine. I've been driving cars for years and Im just wondering which entry level bike I should get.
would a gsxr600 be too much for me. i have 1 ear before im eligable to get a motorcycle license in my state. ive grown up on riding dirtbikes. i already have a car
i would never buy a motorcycle.....at one time all my friends got the bike bug and they all bought motorcycles.....and.....they all sold them within about 18 months. Each and every one of them had near fatal encounters and...."it wasn't their fault".....the problem is other drivers in cars hitting you. A bike makes a very small visual imprint and the smallest mistake can be fatal or cripling. Not worth lieing in a nursing home paralized and lieing in your own shit....don't buy one
Shouldn't be able to drive/buy either car nor motorcycle before you turned at least 18 imo. and then it should be at a certain CC for both, 250CC for bike 17-1800CC for car, until age 25. People are generally better drivers, and think twice before they do something, when your older. 16 is way to young to drive a big bike, let alone a car.
I'm in Michigan and when i turned 16, which im still 16 until January , my parents gave me a 01 Chrysler concord then just 2 months ago i bought myself a 01 R6 its pretty awsome

Hmmm...I'm in a weird situation here, in the UK, you can only have a 50cc when you're 16, so I got a 50cc scooter which was ok in the summer (except for being really slow, 35mph) but then the winter hit, and it was bad, I live in the centre of the UK so hardly extreme weather, but frosts, bitter cold and rain are a daily happening in the winter, I've now turned 17 and I've enjoyed a 125cc bike for summer but now winter is getting here I'm having thoughts of buying a car, I've got a job now...
looking to start your own online business.. i can help visit me at my channel and i will train you buy showing you all tricks you can use to become successfull online.
oh man, I would love to buy a fast car, but they are so expensive for me.. a bike it's cheap and extremely fast and beautiful and stylish.. but still I don't even have a money for a bike..
I highly recommend new drivers to learn how to drive a stick shift so they will be able to learn how to multitask even though it will eventually become second nature.
I totally agree with you Steel. I would recommend learning the roads in a car. And like you said, in other parts of the country it can get damn cold and wet.
i started off on a car and when my dad got a bike when i was 17 thats when i got my motorcycle licence. i just bought my own first bike (same as yours) and i'm 20 now. i would have to say i am alot more conifdent on the bike because of my car expierence. besides i only have a couple of months of motorcycle weather up here in canada anyways.
just wanna say, im 16 and ive got a bike, i don't have a car but i love riding my bike, i see your point about getting a car and then a bike, but i love riding so i don't need a car
Hey this is the only year I really got poured on. It was so bad some crazies were getting ready to build an ark. I agree with this reasoning. Not the ark but the your vlog. I know many young people who have gotten in car accidents where I was thinking it would have sucked to be riding in that accident.
yeah im olny 16 got my first truck when i was 15 then I got a motorbike so I pretty much have a back up when its raining but I love my motorbike so i ride pretty much when its rainy or sunny no mater what haha
Thats me man, ride my bike in all weather...except ice lol
i only have a bike but im only 18, here in the uk you cant drive till ur 17...
what drew me to a bike (appart from the fact that i have been on the back of my dads bike since i was 8) was how much cheaper it is.
but i do agree, there is so much you can learn from driving a car first....even for just a year. but at the end of the day i think it depends on the person.
I live in the UK as well and i know car insurance is crazy. How much cheaper is the bike? Did u just pass the Competent Bike Test thing? or get your full biker licence?
Here in Holland is a bike way cheaper than a car. For my insurance and taxes i had to spend 150 euro a year. The licence for a bike is more expencive i believe. a 1500 euro total.
I agree with you! A car is a good choice for most newbie drivers. the exception would be for some of these kids that grow-up riding dirt bikes since they were old enough to walk. lol
Riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous and is not for everyone. it is essential that a teenager have the skills and maturity to safely ride a bike. i say this as a father to 2 teenagers. ;^)
very true about using a car first to get used to the road, however that doesnt mean u have to forget about getting a bike right away,, i got used to the roads in my parents car for about 8 months of solid driving almost everyday, and then as soon as spring came i got a bike last thursday!! haha im 16, but as long as you can hold back and be responsible i think ull be fine.. very good points SHC!!
i have also tought about this. i think a car is more important. i live in indianapolis, so riding a motorcycle in 14 inches of snow is not advisable. i would buy a cheap ass car, and then buy a hot sexy bike.

At beginning I got cagers license, but still don't have my own car, I prefer to be hardcore biker ;]
Shoot looks like i have done everything you said completely opposite. I live in Texas, I have a bike (Ninja 250) before car, and well, believe it or not, I'm 15 lol.
lol, well when your 15 a car really isn't an option. I guess if you get an early start with a bike it can be helpful. For a lot of people thats not really an option.
@CrazyRickyy Nice, i live in Texas too! But im 16 and i really want a bike, but my parents are like " Son, Motorcycles are just way to dangerous. Its not you, its the people around you that you need to worry about"
@NoobxSlasha Wow its already been a year since that comment! Haha you will find that most other drivers are pretty dumb lol. Yeah you have to be pretty level headed to be on a bike at this young of age...It cant be for the "cool" factor, which is why most teenagers would want one. I have both the bike and a truck and still enjoy and prefer the bike. I feel like i have more control of where i want to go while on it. Good luck...and be sure to take that MSF course if you get one.
good advice bro. im one of those hard core "bikers" motorcyclist that ride all year round in all types of weather, i sold my truck 6 month ago and wish i hadnt. my wife drives a cage and they do come in handy on occasions. YES, getting the knowledge from behind the wheel of a cage(car) helps out alot when developing the skills to ride a bike, and vice versa for bikers as well. staying alive is the key to having fun.
I live in FL and I couldn't agree more. I don't care what anyone says, no way in hell am I riding in a FL thunderstorm. Driving into what looks to be a shallow puddle often times turns into driving through a small pond. Very dangerous for a motorcycle rider, experienced or not. I do only own a vintage scooter as my primary vehicle but I borrow my sister's / parent's car when it storms bad or I get my friends to take me. It is nice to have a car and I'm glad I got a good 4 yrs of car driving 1st
@cniiru I know what you're talking about man. I live here in Lakeland, Fl. and the thunderstorms are no joke. It's hard enough driving a car in them. But I rode here all winter. (Even two days after it snowed.) So as for temperatures i's really preference. As for getting a bike or car first, of course a car. So much more useful for everything than a bike. (Except speeding.)
which ever it is, get the best you can afford so you spend less time and money fixing the thing.
i ride in pretty much anything above freezing, and don't have heated gear. the only thing that still gets me is wind gusts. i'll take rain and cold weather, over wind.
good boots, good jacket, good gloves, good pants are a necessity. they don't need to be fancy, but they do need to keep the wind out.
as much as i would like to say otherwise, a car is probably a better way to start with.
I got a car at 17, done my cbt at 18 (So had a years experience) Spent six months car, bike, car, bike.. got my full bike licence and a bike... then had prolonged periods of car bike car bike car bike... then the car died.. and I just hoped on the bike more.. next thing i know its been a year since passing my bike test and now im getting my bigger bike and doing away with the car. I live in the uk =]
I started on a bike and have never had a problem. That said, drivers in the UK are way more reckless and fast than those in the US, so you need your wits about you no matter what.
I think a car would be best for learning to drive. Lets you get used to how other drivers tend to act, and if you make a mistake that causes an accident it will probably be safer.
Just my opinion.
Cager is also more practical, but most wont admit it :P
ok, but how long have you been riding, what do you do for the weeks that the roads are snow covered? I live in Utah and ride moat all of the year but only when the roads are not covered in ICE / Snow!
keep in mind that this is coming from the perspective of a beginner who may not know how to maneuver in bad weather situations.
I see what your saying well thanks for the advice .(Still thinks I'll get a motorcycle). I think I will be aight cuz I've lived in the cold weather the whole of my life but waiting for the bike to warm up and the chill on my neck will be a pain.
thanks but my problem is that i don't want to ride while im married so that's why i want to get a bike before then while im young and healthy then i can start back up when im retired but then again.. im only just turning 16... and i could have an $800 '80s civic for another 1-2 years and while i have the car i could get a bike hmmm thanks! and my parents will probably be alot happier lol...
iv driven rain or shine on a ped which has died on me now :/ and if im honest i really hate "sunday riders" basically they are cagers who go about on sunny sunday afternoons if its nice and warm...now the thing about bikes is there a different set of rules than there are to cars and theses people come out and drive their bikes like cars! i saw an r1 with about 3 ICHES!!! of chicken strip either side...i have/had 1.5CM dont forget i have my engine on one side and a large exhaust on the other
and when i say rain or shine i mean the only days i have not ridden have been when the bike died on me people in london will know about january with all the snow i was still out in that now im not a rider who looks down on commuters in anyway they do their thing i do mine but i just hate posers with a passion like the ones in full leathers with knee sliders...THAT HAVE NO SCRATCHES guess what im trying to say is just be yourself dont sit there and call yourself a biker if you ride only when the
weather is suitable the same way you should buy a bike that suites your kind of driving style most of the time a sunday rider would have more fun on a scooter than they would on their 1000cc sports bikes the same way as if your on the motor way all the time buy a tourer not a sports bike if you travel through the city get a naked road bike JUST SUIT YOUR ENVIRONMENT...if you took the time to read this its just how i feel and thanks for reading!
Hmm. I may be biased, since my first vehicle was my bike. I still don't have a car and haven't had the need for anything else. I don't think it's only "possible", I think it makes no difference. As long as it's under 250cc and you don't care if there is a bit of rain there is nothing wrong with getting a bike.
i'm hardcore.... South East PA!!! ride in january, rain etc. all the time. Even ride in mild snow. I'm fucking crazy. It's an addiction. Just can't stop. 1 day without the bike is some serious withdrawal. Can't even focus. All I think about is riding.
& first timers... def get a car first. Trying to learn how traffic behaves while riding a motorcycle is insane. & motorcycling is expensive, especially gear. Everyone goes down. I've been down twice. Get full boots too. See u out there! :-D *wave*
.... What kind of cars are you talking about? over 200 toyota camry's (2005-2006) sold in NH last week at a dealers auction for $5,000 each. My first car a 1987 buick la sabre was $500. My second a 1998 toyota avalon was $2500. My ninja 250 3 years ago was $2000. My SV650 was $4000. I've spent over $750 on gear. Helmet, jacket, pants, boots, race gauntlets. Can you even own only a motorcycle where you live? Ever ride in the rain/snow? A car is never more expensive.
I agree with ya. Although I live outside of those areas, and I went for the bike! There are plenty of days that you just cant ride though... and I am forced to borrow a car.
yea i agree with you on a car when it is in the winter months. or the rain and so on. I love my motorcycle and all, but it sucks in rain and cold and when it snows, you can forget it.
Well put. Work your way up dont' jump on a bike first thing, alot of the young people out there want to jump on a bike and ride like I did, but I have been riding motorcycles and ATV's from the time I was 5 years old. But some of you will learn the hard way!
if you've never driven/ridden before, then the obvious answer is a car. It's hard enough to learn the rules of the road with a car, I wouldn't add in the nuisance of a motorcycle to it. Drive a car, it's easy. Wait a bit and meanwhile study the road till you're ready

I'd say - get both. And if don't plan to, or you couldn't weave through traffic, just forget about bike and go with car.
I really never understood ppl who were wondering about that, in places with almost no parking issues, nice roads and little traffic...

I totally agree with owning a crappy car before a bike, but its a personal choice i guess.

I have 2 bikes and I just totalled my car. Should I get a car or another bike?

Thanks for the advice! :)
I was sorta siding with a car to begin with but this seals it.
HendrickFan2488548 1 year ago
I think a car would be best for learning to drive. Lets you get used to how other drivers tend to act, and if you make a mistake that causes an accident it will probably be safer.
Just my opinion.
Cager is also more practical, but most wont admit it :P

ok, but how long have you been riding, what do you do for the weeks that the roads are snow covered? I live in Utah and ride moat all of the year but only when the roads are not covered in ICE / Snow!
keep in mind that this is coming from the perspective of a beginner who may not know how to maneuver in bad weather situations.
kary1982v6 1 year ago
I don't know if I agree with your logic I mean if its cold and rainy wont you wear heavier gear that would beter protect in an accident?
LastDEF 1 year ago
Actually it balances out, in the cold your concentration is impaired. In the rain, the roads are slick and you can't see well.

I see what your saying well thanks for the advice .(Still thinks I'll get a motorcycle). I think I will be aight cuz I've lived in the cold weather the whole of my life but waiting for the bike to warm up and the chill on my neck will be a pain.

Trust me, get a good scarf. It may sound weird but they work miracles.
steelhorseclub 1 year ago
Depends on where you live. remember Bikes are seasonal. cars are year round. I still love bikes!
kary1982v6 1 year ago
thanks but my problem is that i don't want to ride while im married so that's why i want to get a bike before then while im young and healthy then i can start back up when im retired but then again.. im only just turning 16... and i could have an $800 '80s civic for another 1-2 years and while i have the car i could get a bike hmmm thanks! and my parents will probably be alot happier lol...

iv driven rain or shine on a ped which has died on me now :/ and if im honest i really hate "sunday riders" basically they are cagers who go about on sunny sunday afternoons if its nice and warm...now the thing about bikes is there a different set of rules than there are to cars and theses people come out and drive their bikes like cars! i saw an r1 with about 3 ICHES!!! of chicken strip either side...i have/had 1.5CM dont forget i have my engine on one side and a large exhaust on the other
ridewithme2010 1 year ago
and when i say rain or shine i mean the only days i have not ridden have been when the bike died on me people in london will know about january with all the snow i was still out in that now im not a rider who looks down on commuters in anyway they do their thing i do mine but i just hate posers with a passion like the ones in full leathers with knee sliders...THAT HAVE NO SCRATCHES guess what im trying to say is just be yourself dont sit there and call yourself a biker if you ride only when the
ridewithme2010 1 year ago
weather is suitable the same way you should buy a bike that suites your kind of driving style most of the time a sunday rider would have more fun on a scooter than they would on their 1000cc sports bikes the same way as if your on the motor way all the time buy a tourer not a sports bike if you travel through the city get a naked road bike JUST SUIT YOUR ENVIRONMENT...if you took the time to read this its just how i feel and thanks for reading!

a car is defnetly the way to go when it comes to beginners
how ever.. ... in the city... man... i love my bike in the city.. i wouldnt trade it for any car in the world.

I started riding when I was 17. Waiting a year was already killing me.

Hmm. I may be biased, since my first vehicle was my bike. I still don't have a car and haven't had the need for anything else. I don't think it's only "possible", I think it makes no difference. As long as it's under 250cc and you don't care if there is a bit of rain there is nothing wrong with getting a bike.
shiftplusone80 1 year ago
i'm hardcore.... South East PA!!! ride in january, rain etc. all the time. Even ride in mild snow. I'm fucking crazy. It's an addiction. Just can't stop. 1 day without the bike is some serious withdrawal. Can't even focus. All I think about is riding.
& first timers... def get a car first. Trying to learn how traffic behaves while riding a motorcycle is insane. & motorcycling is expensive, especially gear. Everyone goes down. I've been down twice. Get full boots too. See u out there! :-D *wave*

sum33 1 year ago
A car is never more expensive.
lifeisgood070 1 year ago
Good video.
I agree learn on four wheels first.
Minor mistakes in a car are easier to walk away from than minor mistakes on a motorcycle.
suburbanryder 1 year ago 10
I agree with ya. Although I live outside of those areas, and I went for the bike! There are plenty of days that you just cant ride though... and I am forced to borrow a car.
Iroquois14 1 year ago
yea i agree with you on a car when it is in the winter months. or the rain and so on. I love my motorcycle and all, but it sucks in rain and cold and when it snows, you can forget it.
krikster1 1 year ago
Well put. Work your way up dont' jump on a bike first thing, alot of the young people out there want to jump on a bike and ride like I did, but I have been riding motorcycles and ATV's from the time I was 5 years old. But some of you will learn the hard way!
