Book is much better. Power and Flynn were excellent and Ava was always beautiful and understated. Cinematography and location shots were exciting and almost a travelogue. Script was weak with the futility of their romantic relationship and the string of rejected lovers angst overdone. Thanks for posting.
this movie is amazing it's hard to believe that Errol Flynn had died five years after that movie I like also Ernest Hemingway's book epsecially A Farewell to the Arms I've never readed The sun also rises but now I'm gonna do it Ava Gardner is as always lovely.
tyrone power and errol flynn in the same film no more like them around they were one of a kind. todays so called movie stars cant hold a candle to these two greats
Some really ham acting, especially Erroll Flynn in that fight scene with Mel Ferrer. Tyrone Powers was ideal as Jake, just how I pictured him from reading Hemingway's book.
The acting in this is painful. Thank God Brando eventually changed the game for everyone. And, God, what's with the clothes in this film? Surely they must have had some leftover suits and dresses from just 30 or so years prior. Ugh.
There were many movies made in the fifties that were set in the 1920s, and they got the fashions all wrong, probably because the style in the 50s was quite rigid and the silhouette was the antithesis of the 20s look, e.g. ladies narrow waist vs. drop waist, men's suits are the wrong cut, no accurate cloche hats or marcelled hair, pointy 50s bras, etc.
Henry King was one of the best directors in Hollywood history. Directed Tol'able David in 1921 all the way to This Earth is Mine in 1959. An underrated director because he was not well known. To me better than John Ford and Clarence Brown. I never get bored with his movies. With John Ford, on the other hand, I get bored with the movies he made after 1946. Testament to Henry King's genius: In Old Chicago, State Fair, this movie, The Song of Bernadette, and Love is Many Splendored Thing.
Thank you very much for uploading the film. "The Sun Also Rises" was made in 1957. Just one year after the movie was made Tyrone Power was dead at 44. Another year later, Errol Flynn was dead at 50, by which time Ava Gardner had gone to Spain with Ernest Hemingway and taken a bullfighter as a lover. Four years after the movie was made, Hemingway himself, a composite of all the male characters in the film, was dead at 61.
Hi-just to correct you- the movie was made in 1957 not 54 & there is no "s" on Tyrone's last name-thanx for posting-Errol Flynn should have won an academy awrd-it's his BEST acting performance.

Thanks so much for uploading. This is far more truthful to the book than the awful 1984 remake.
