if you dont throw the ball hard, you dont gonna sign, period. How many pitchers are in the majors throwing below 80?? NON!!! there are two pitchers who throw slow in MLB; Livan Hernandez and Tim Wakefield. There are also left handed pitchers who throw slow compared to the others, BUT they are lefties; and they throw 85 plus.
@biolinquin Jamie Moyer pithed for the Phillies and threw about 75mph and was on the World Series team in 08. He also is the oldest pitcher to ever throw a shut out game.
@biolinquin stupid its not all about speed. if you could throw 100 mph but cant control it they wont sign you. its about control and movement of your pitches. kids seem to forget that these days. all they wanna do is get on the mound and throw their arms out trying to throw 90 mph. look at jamie moyer he throws slow but he can control his pitches. and hes like 45 years old.
@abisdaboss55 Yeah thats why they signed Aroldis Chapman, if you can throw hard and they see potential in you they sign you trust me. Seen that in allot of cases, and also a factor in the Dom. Rep.
@abisdaboss55 let me Know once you make it to the majors throwing 80MPH. I bet you a million you can't even make it to a good D2 Program. When scouts see a kid throwing 90+ with no control, they think; "We can teach him how to throw strikes." When scouts see a kid with great control and good breaking stuff, they think; "I wish he could pick a couple more miles." You cannot teach people how to throw hard. I do not throw hard, but I am a strike machine.
@abisdaboss55 I gave up one run in the whole fall season, and I pitched 19 innings. Since I dont throw hard, guess where am at? (JUCO). One of my teammates who couldn't throw strikes AT ALL!!!! got called by Central Florida. Do you want to know why??? he throws 90-93. accept the reality, in this era if you dont throw hard, ou are not going anywhere. The January 2011 edition of Sport Illustrated has a section in which the call this era "The Radar Gun Era", guess Why??
velocity come fourth on the list, its the most overrated part of pitching... im 14 and have faced 3 or 4 guys throwing 85 plus and had less trouble with them than i did with numerous pitchers throwing mid 70's with good movement
those kids that throw in the 70s wont ever get a chance to pitch in agood level because of the lack of velocity, the ones who throw 85 plus will get one, they just have to fix their control problems and there you go a 90mph pitcher the others will never get a chance to get signed, if velocity didnt matter that much scouts wont be looking for pitchers throwing more than 90 mph
:@Knn3144. research how hard he use to throw when he signed!! you will be surprised.
